Would you buy gr86 again?

My beautiful 2013 FRS came to an untimely death this past weekend against a much larger SUV that turned into her. I am looking at a 2022. Should I do it again?

Depends on whether you want something else (due to priorities or just want something else) or not.

If you just want to continue with the experience, then by all means, a GR86 is basically the same car but newer/better.

I think asking here you will get a resounding yes.
The couple of people that got them and didn't like it have already sold and moved on.

This guy speaks the truth.

OP's question is the epitome of sourcing from a place that will only get you a biased answer.

Ultimately OP has to determine whether you liked the experience because the second one is basically more of the same but a little bit plushier.

Yes I would do it again, I did.
'16 FR-S blue. still own it.
'23 GR 86 Blue.
real original I know.

What else would you get if you didn't get a 2nd gen? That's the question. There's lots of options out there, still, from a Sports car standpoint.

It’s a fair question. I asked myself the same after 10 years with my FR-S. Was tempted to get an s2000, ND2 Miata, or Camaro SS 1LE just to get something different. After weighing all the options though, the gen 2 BRZ was too good to pass up. Best way I can put it is, imagine your FR-S with more power, nicer interior, modern amenities, more refinement (smoother shifter, lighter steering, smoother ride), and revised exterior. Other than the power difference, it’s a lot of small changes that make the car feel more premium. Not everyone wants that and sometimes I miss the rawer feel/simplicity of my FR-S, but overall the 2nd gen is really good. Just know it’s mostly an improvement of the same experience as opposed to something completely different.

If you still want this type of car there are either 3 other, or no* other options available, so the decision is simple.

*Only other 2 door, small sport coupes with fold down rear seats are Camaro, Mustang, and M2, but those are still considerably heavier so are they really competitors?

I don't think any of us can answer that for you.

I would seriously consider a late model Gen 1. Not a fan of the Gen 2, plus my priorities have changed a bit so my next vehicle will be more of a "grandpa mobile".

I would like a new generation 86 but with lack of availability and dealer gouging they can keep them

If you have to ask….

Well, maybe look around… play the field.

I know if my 2013 BRZ was no longer driveable I would move Heaven and Earth to get my fat ass into another alacantra Limited seat with all due speed.

Non negotiable.

I’m in a similar situation. A deer jump down into the road in front of me and hit it doing about 80km. I had a 13 frs and they totalled it.
I had just ordered a new truck so decided to wait and think about for a few month, before realizing I wouldn’t be happy with any other car I could afford new. Decided to drop a deposit down on a red gr86 to replace my firestorm frs. I did that back in October and got a call a few weeks ago that the only allocation my small dealer is getting for the year is my car.

Long story short, I say go for it!
