Dash Cam Install
New here... just thought this might be of general interest.
Subaru sells a wire harness H501SAJ010 for Gen1 BRZ that also fits Gen2. It connects to the 3-plug wire harness (for optional port-installed auto-dimming/homelink rearview mirror) that sits just above and to the rear of the overhead compartment. (To access, watch videos for installing auto-dimming mirror.) For roughly $10 you will get the proper wire harness. The white plug connects to the harness... the black one is useless here, cut it off. The STRIPED wire is ACC+ and the black wire next to it is NEG-. Ignore the 3rd wire. Amazon sells little Buck convertors for 12VDC to 5VDC USB: 2 for $10. Connect one with butt-connectors to the plug. On the other side use whatever USB cable you need for the dash cam. In my case, my VIOFO A119 needed a USB-A to Mini-B connector 2-3ft is plenty long. The whole power installation fits neatly above the overhead console. If you do get a VIOFO A119, a couple of notes: 1) The GPS module attaches to the windshield, but lets you simply detach the recorder itself... very handy (and uses a straight in cable, neater than the otherwise 90degree option). 2) The ideal spot is to the immediate right of the mirror stalk. I installed mine a little farther away thinking I needed access for the SD card. That was a mistake, the whole camera detaches readily from the GPS mount, so snug it up next to the mirror. Cheers |

I have some connectors to split the port at the mirror end rather than at the 3 pin, but i’ve not built them yet since i’ve been occupied with other projects. The OBD2 port option will work for this purpose though, as long as you have a hardwire kit for the dashcam.
