As we saw with the Walnut Creek deposits there is definitely inconsistency with these waitlists. My meeting with One Toyota left me with the impression I was 3rd on the waitlist. When I called Marin Toyota they said they don’t have a waitlist and to just keep checking. I also talked to the managers since one of my co-workers used to work there and he said the same thing, no waitlist lmao.

I put a deposit down for a Track bRED Premium, dealership said they will sell it for msrp, hoping they honor that and don't get shady. They put the order in, gave me a range between 4-6 months before it will show up.

Same experience for me except the deposit is non-refundable. Probably the best I'm going to get in this area as every other dealer is marking it up $3k.

What inconsistencies are happening with Walnut Creek's waitlist?

Example: I was told I'm 2nd in line for Neptune/MT/Premium, but I preordered after @puppers, and was also told he is 2nd

Yeah dealers are getting so many orders for a white 86 they probably don’t care who’s in line.

I remember when I was looking for the white 6MT FR-S it only took a couple of weeks because the car had one trim level so you could just pick color and transmission.

Now that there’s more colors, a whole new trim level, AND an available automatic at the base model there’s essentially 28 configurations.

28 configurations and the only way to really get the color you want is to “preference and pray.”

Wow

Wow
I think the only way it’s preference and pray is if it’s any color other then White, red and maybe black. Being that they’re the most common car colors and everyone on either forum only talk about them. As far as the model, dealers will probably get a lot of premiums in for the first wave and the accessories are mostly going to be dealer installed when the first batch comes.

May be miscommunication. For instance, I'm first for a silver premium MT, but 8th overall, with a few people ahead of that have very loose specifications like anything with a manual, or premium with manual. So if my exact car comes in, but it's the first car they get, someone else ahead of me will get it.

Regarding One Toyota of Oakland, I remember when I was shopping around about a month ago, they said I would be #8, so seeing that people got an earlier number is suspect. I didn't go with them despite them being closer because the vibe I got didn't feel very organized, at least with Walnut Creek it was with one of the managers.

With all that said, I think there's a strong probability that I'll end up just buying the car from a dealer who happens to get what I want vs getting the one from my deposit.

I'm in no particular rush to get the car, but in a few months I will want it more, at which case I'll expand my search to places I'm willing to travel to and drive back from which I've done before, so I factored in the strong possibility that I'll end up buying the car from a dealer who happens to have what I want in stock vs getting my allocation via deposit. Time will tell.

I really do wish though that Toyota dealers were more like Subaru dealers.
