You can get complete used FA24’s for about 6500. He just needs the cam trigger wheels from the FA20. 13-16 uses a different style of cam trigger and crank trigger then the 17-20 which is the same as the 2nd gen.

That is currently to be seen. Ideally I'd love to be able to use the FA20 valves and springs, but haven't researched at all the specs of each. I want the FA24 heads with the FA24 short block to maintain the proper piston the head clearance and compression ratio. FA20 cam & phazers to keep the computer happy.

I think there a change in some of the rocker arm/valve and maybe cam assemblies in early gen 1's. It may have been done to help eliminate rocker arm ejections. On my rebuild, my motor guy ordered a new set of rocker arms but they didn't match the original ones. He ended up sourcing a couple early rocker arms to replace my damaged ones. If you get 2014-2015 heads, you're prolly be ok. |

Now that I'm looking at engine/car options.
Is using an FA24 in 2013 FRS as simple as switching the cam phasers, intake, and other external items? What am I missing? |

I don’t think it is going to be quite that simple, but until I get my hands on one I don’t know for sure. There is a lot of misinformation I have come across on the swap.

I have to imagine its still quite a bit more difficult (sensors differences, wiring harness/plug differences, etc), but have to admit to being curious..

There are FA24 first gens running around with a variety of sensor/harness configurations at this point, given that people stand to make money doing this the details are being kept fairly quiet. It'll be public eventually.
