GR x JUN x ZELE BRZ

Hey everyone, figured to create a journal to showcase the progress of my BRZ.

Bought the car back in March 2019 as a 2018 leftover. It was a new 2018 Subaru BRZ with performance package. I had already negotiated an OTD price which was a steal for a brand new car. Also, my first manual car. I believe I got the best price in Southern California for 2018 BRZ with PP ($26,500).

It came Popular Package #2 which included blue footwell lighting, auto dimming mirror and homelink, trunk cargo mat, and wheel locks. Subaru OEM Sunshade was also included. Always used this sunshade even when inside an underground parking lot. Guess it's a force of habit.

Decided to keep the car stock until warranty is done.
I'm using this platform to understand how cars are maintained and becoming a better driver.

I plan to keep this car long term and slowly modify it.
So far, only did mods that improve daily drivability.

As for cosmetics, I've always loved how the 2018 Toyota 86 GR (only sold in Japan) looked, especially the front lip.

As for power mods, I decided to hold off. I think autocross and track days would be more beneficial. Unpopular opinion but I think this car has enough horsepower. However, I think it can use a bit more torque.

Previous & Current installs/ modifications:

INTERIOR:
Old: Dashcam (CR900 Crosstour Dashcam Front and Rear)
New: Dashcam (AZDOME M550 3 Channel; hardwired by me)
Ceramic Tints (Rayno Phantom S5 Ceramic Tint)
LED interior lights
Lower door card lighting that shows 'SUBARU' in a circle
Leather/ suede armrest
Leather Pocket for gap on side of seats
Subaru tS OEM Alcantara upper door trim (Black/ red stitching)
Subaru STI push button start
Subaru STI shift knob
YEET button sticker
FTSpeed Carbon Fiber/ Alcantara Steering Wheel
Tried installing 2017 steering wheel buttons for pause/ play button on left side of steering wheel button. Did not work so just ended up leaving it there
GoPro mount

EXTERIOR:
Blindspot Mirrors
Old: Clear Side Markers from eBay
New: JDM Clear Side Markers
Red Side Marker Lights
Ceramic Coating (Avalon King Ceramic Coating. Did it myself)
Magnetic License Plate
Old: Red Vinyl Wrapped Mirror Caps
Black Silicon License Plate Frame Rear
Ice Silver Metallic (G1U) Roof Spoiler (OLM Paint Matched Rear Roof Visor Spoiler)
Toyota 86 GR Front Spoiler
Toyota 86 GR Extension Left and Right
JUN Carbon Fiber Side Skirts
ZELE Carbon Fiber Rear Spats

EXHAUST:
DC Sport EX-1013 Stainless Steel Muffler Tips

WHEELS AND TIRES:
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 215/45/17

UNDER THE HOOD:
K&N Drop In Air Filter
Rexpeed Carbon Fiber Hood Dampers

March 2019
When I got the car at Subaru Orange Coast.

April 2019
1st gas up.

May 2019
Hit 1,000 miles.

January 2020
Wrapped side mirrors red to match Brembos and side marker light. Also because of the cherry red mirror caps offered on the BRZ STI in Japan.

April 2020
Installed roof spoiler.

June 2020
Got the Toyota 86 GR front side fins.

I got a puncture on a sidewall which is nonrepairable. Super small pinhole size puncture right on the Michelin man’s face. Shit luck but it happens. Decided to get 4 new tires instead of replacing 1 since stock tires are expensive af. Went with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Replaced at 10,626 miles.

July 2020
Got the Toyota 86 GR front spoiler.

Glad to see you were able to get that GR lip that popped up. Didn’t know it was going on a BRZ hahaha.

Should look cool once the fitment is all fine tuned and dialed in

Yup glad I was able to hold out on that auction. Excited to install it once I order the correct nuts and bolts as well as figure out the difference in mounting between the 86 and BRZ. Appreciate the help thru pm

When do you plan to install your GR lip?

Haha idk honestly. I bought it because it was a great deal and wanted to jump on it before missing out. Getting prepped for upcoming track days is higher on the priority list right now though.

My guess is probably a couple months from now.

GT3 is life lol

The side fins are designed specifically to be used with the GR front lip. I have all the part numbers for Zenki and kouki models. If you want them, just hit me up and I can send them and point you on where to get them.

I actually just talked to the OP over Instagram and ordered a set but thank you! I am modifying a Zele lip (pre-facelift BRZ) to accommodate the stepped section on these fins. Hopefully it turns out ok!

Nice dude! Best of luck. Post up pics when it's done. I'll be curious to see the end result.

You can mix GRMN 86 parts in a BRZ, but some of them will have fitting issues. The front lip was designed specifically for the pre-facelift 86 model. Even if you fix the fitting issue, it won't be that functional. Of course, you can do it if you like it.

He said he's going to make adjustments to make it fit better. There's also a kouki lip, which is for the 86 GR, which is what I have as well.

I don't think it'll take all that much work to fit properly. Luckily, it's ABS so it's pretty flexible and some boiling water can help make it more pliable. There's obviously a limit, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Yeah I'm not expecting it to fit with my OEM STi lip or Zele lip right off the bat. I'll probably match the shape of the my fiberglass lip with some filler to fit the side fins. After some additional plies of fiberglass, sanding and paint, it should look pretty oem (I hope).

For 50 bucks each, it seems like a fun project to tackle. I honestly thought these would be a lot more considering OEM quality, so this is a nice surprise.

Installed the GR lip with a friend who also just bought a BRZ after driving mine.

Honestly was set on selling it due to fitment issues so it was sitting in the closet until 3/13/21. I'll still need to fill in minor gaps but it's drilled on the car! Probably the first and only BRZ with this lip. Now to get the STI side skirts and rear spats.

Thats very nice!

I haven't seen a GR lip fitted to the BRZ bumper before.

If I may ask, where you ordered it?

Really like the look of the GR lip and side extensions.

STI side skirts and rear spats will finish off the look.

Subtle and clean.

Keep it up.

Thank you! I was originally planning on buying it from Toyota Japan directly but it was difficult to find a direct contact so I went onto Yahoo Auctions to find the front lip. As for the side extensions, I got it from Nengun Performance.

Finally getting around to updating this thread.

Installed JUN carbon fiber side skirts and ZELE carbon fiber rear spats on September 11, 2021.

Thought the rear spats would be similar size to STI rear spats but it's three times the size. Worked out perfectly since the side skirts end swoop continues perfectly with the rear spats.

Body kit is complete!
Front Lip: Toyota 86 GR ZN6 Front Spoiler and Side Fins
Side Skirts: JUN Carbon Fiber Side Skirts
Rear Spats: ZELE Carbon Fiber Rear Spats
