OFT - Unable to read, ECU in recovery mode??

So I just got my OFT and hooked it up to my 15 BRZ. Initially the screen was blank (white) but after a reconnect it seemed to boot up fine. I'm trying to do the initial read of the ECU but I keep getting the message "unable to read, ECU in recovery mode". Any advice on what is wrong here? I've tried reconnecting it several times, and disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU twice, and yes I pushed the start button twice so it was not just in accessory mode. HELP!?

I started the car up and now the CEL is on. Ran the code and its: U0073. I cleared the code (using torque app) and tried to read the ECU again with the OFT, but still the same error. I was thinking the OBD port on my car may be an issue, but it worked fine with my scanner, so maybe its the OFT or the cable?

Pretty sure that's a communication error, so you probably have a bad connection at the OBD Ii port. A lot of people have had issues with the OBD pins, they're shitty and they get out of shape when you connect and disconnect a lot. I had the issue myself. I ended up getting an OBD extension cable and keeping it plugged in so I don't continue to put wear on the OBD pins.

Yea I had this issue while back this year. Same error code. Troubleshoot every option. I ended up having a bad cable. Had to send it back in and they sent me a new unit no cost.
