Undo the latches for the rear seat and crawl back there.

I accidentally locked my key in the trunk once. Ended up prying hard enough on the seat back to bend the frame and reach the pull straps to drop the rear seat. It was a lesson I remember every time I have to try and latch the rear seat back upright haha.

I also know they didnt provide an external trunk opening button until later as well.
when the car first came out the only way to open the trunk was through the keyfob right?

You could buy an ebay key like one of those keyfobs, then get it cut at the dealership. They charge about 20bucks. It wont start your car unless you program it but i'll open your trunk.

IDK my cars trunk can open with the keyfob, the key, a button on then dash, and the mentioned buttons on the rear seats. Been that way since the factory. 2013 old enough to part of the recall.

Same case with my 2013. Fob, dash button, key access under trunk garnish. I was actually surprised that there's no trunk release button on the interior for my 2019 Impreza. I didn't know about those seat buttons, I checked mine just now and they work, hahaha.

i see

It must have been something i read or heard about where you couldnt folddown the trunk from inside, had to be from inside the trunk.

People must have overlooked those buttons cuz i definately saw them when i got my 86 and was like....I can drop the seat from inside.......i thought that wasnt a thing.

That hack has always been around. You just had to know to pull the cover to get to it
There has always been a dash button on all versions
The button always existed with the keyless entry cars. That would be BRZs and Special Edition FRS until Toyota did two trims on the 86.
The trunk has always been able to opened with the key no matter what year or model.

I'm confused. Didn't they all have keyless entry? My '15 base has keyless entry and a trunk button on the fob.
