What I should start doing from now on, is create a maintenance binder (or even a digital photo album on my phone) to keep track of the maintenance, with pics of oil, the act of oil draining, supporting documents of each event. At least they'll be timestamped, and I can keep track of all my vehicles.
I used to think this was an extreme approach (still might be), but it would absolutely be proof of equivalent completed maintenance. |

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Car forums and Facebook groups make problems look more prevalent than they really are.
You aren't hearing about the thousands of cars with this engine that aren't having an issue.

Is good to aware of the issue and monitor what you can but as I said earlier in the thread there are tens of thousands of Ascents out there with fundamentally the same block with no reported issues.

Feb 2022 is when I started seriously inquiring here in Buffalo-- I inquired about this car the day before you picked it up! You snagged it just before I did. Sorry about how gross our winters are up here. |

Screw this (again)! Let's crowd-fund someone like Fel Pro/ Fed Mogul to get them to make us full gasket kits for FA24 engines!

Just read through this thread and now i'm slightly worried. I was checking my oil a few days ago and when cleaning off the dip stick, i felt a small bulge right between the low and high indicator (if i recall correctly). I looked at it, and it looked like some grey plastic/epoxy type material that was stuck to the dipstick. When using a cloth to wipe off the oil from the dip stick, this material didn't budge, but when i picked at it with my nail it was somewhat malleable. I wonder if this could be the same material? The interesting thing, is that it is stuck to the dipstick and is small in size.
I'll try to get pictures in the next few days and share. I was also bringing the car into the dealer anyways for something else and will ask about it. I just got the car a couple weeks ago and it has about 500 miles. Wonder if it is the same material as described in this thread... |

I wonder if this is why there was that QC hold on a lot of the cars that were supposed to be delivered from January/February.

Most people think the QC hold was related to the hyperflash blinkers. It is possible it was this (or both), but I doubt it. Also, the QC hold effected cars that had already been built but hadn't left port (mine was effected). Doubt port would have had the ability/skills/materials to do something about this.
