Changing the Push to Start Button
Has anyone changed their Push to start button with a new plastic button? I don’t want to swap the entire push to start piece (where you remove the leather trim and take out the whole module) I only want to change the button itself which I can’t find any posts showing how/ if it can be done.
I’m assuming the chrome piece can be removed and then you can leverage out the button and push in your new one. Just want to know if it can be done or not before I mess around with my ability to start the car.. |

Remove the cubby and remove the start button from the back. 2 clips holding it in.
If you pry it out by the chrome frame, I may have to find and slap ya |

And are you saying you can’t remove just the button itself (literally just the plastic push to start piece) without removing the whole module (the 5cm long bit behind the button that has the wire clip connected to it? The button I’m trying to put in is like the Tom’s push to start button where it’s just the button and no push to start module that comes with it like the OEM TRD/ STI push to start buttons have https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192978195870 I thought if I remove the chrome part I’d be able to fit something to pop out the button and push the new one in |

I imagine once the chrome piece comes off the button itself will be easier to get at. Please post pictures when you get it all in |

I have the same tools as that video but I wasn’t able to do it. Tried multiple times and eventually the tool just broke. I think it’s definitely possible with a better tool. I could get the button to almost be out, but everytime the tool would slip out just before the button would come loose. Not enough room to wedge something else in even when the buttons pulled out. I think 2 of those tools would be needed, no idea how the guy in the video got it so easily Last edited by Sam86; 07-12-2022 at 07:41 AM. |

I didn’t remove the module or remove the chrome trim piece to do this.
Was a lot harder than expected, the button doesn’t come out easily. As my tool was broken I ended up using a paper clip and pliers Last edited by Sam86; 07-19-2022 at 06:39 AM. |
