Clearly the fault of the transmission if it can't handle being shifted properly.

Not really surprising. This is an enthusiast car, since most want an MT the AT sit for longer so you are more likely to see them. It’s pretty common for many enthusiast cars. For example I can tell if a Porsche 993 or 964 is an AT based on its price. The AT is a great commuter.

So it stands to reason that at least with a Scion/Toyota badge - 2 out of 3 used examples are auto. |

The "uptake" phrase continues to imply everyone that had bought an AT had a choice. They did not. There's a good percentage of the AT buyers that wanted an MT but "settled" or didn't care enough to wait. The "uptake" would have been higher if the inventory was there, in theory. It's also very possible a large portion of the BRZ sales are attributable to the simple fact there was MT available across town while Toyota only had AT on the lot (given the build division). In the end, its a bit of a circular argument.

Well, there's some chicken and egg going on here, but I'll just say: I can't wrap my mind around the idea of walking in wanting a manual and walking out with an auto. It's not like when the restaurant is out of the special and you just get a burger.
Like, I "settled" for Whiteout when I wanted Argento b/c there were none to be had. But AT instead of MT? No way. |
