For sure, but not fair to call their consistency a myth. They earned it, they are the epitome of proven and long-term outlook. I agree that it is a little overrated because if you are buying new you'll be getting a warranty +loaner or you're leasing and won't have to worry about it when it's all said and done, so does it really matter that toyota/lexus are the most reliable? Maybe if you're buying out of warranty and wanna keep it for quite a while..

That definitely seems to be more grounded in reality, although, base purely on the rating, I'm not sure why I would buy the #1 car over the #2 car.
The #2 car had a lower reliability rating even though it was off the road less time and the average repair cost was significantly less. Also, the few cars I spot checked would have still been under warranty. I suppose there is relevance to that, but what I really care about is long-term reliability. What happens between 100K and 200K miles for example? Basically, I want to see the curve that shows when to expect to replace the car because it becomes problematic. That's reliability to me.

Except the pedals weren't stuck. Multiple independent studies (even one by NASA) concluded as much. People are idiots. They didn't operate the vehicle properly. This is what happens when you take darwinism out of the equation.

The stuck pedal, the NTSB studied every case and found not one, not one case of computer stuck pedal. Some were attributed to floor mat holding the pedal down, but most were driver error. Wrong pedal pushed and panic, pushed harder.

I remember watching a video where some engineers were able to replicate electronically that the unintended acceleration condition can occur without user error or stuck floor mats. But it was ridiculous because it required some tinkering with the ECU electronic signals and cross signal shorts or something...
Something that no user error or stuck floor mats could ever achieve without mucking with the ECU lol. |
