Leo Parente on Toyota Race Cars and Motor Sports (FT-86 included)

Dude is a little obnoxious, and a bit off point at times, but it's a fairly decent feature for users who don't know much about Toyota's extensive motorsport history.

Quote:
This week's Shakedown features host Leo Parente talking about the passion and legacy of the Toyota brand in motor sports and racing.

That guy is a flake, I don't care what they did in the past. It's what they did the last 10 years, nothing.. Ooo Wedsport GT300, not exciting. They have to rebuild the motorsports image again.. everyone isn't going to welcome them with open arms as if they never threw in the towel and left the building.

They should do a couple TMC backed FT86 in multiple sanctions around the world and earn the respect they've lost..

i stopped watching fast lane daily when leo joined the crew

but if Toyota wants to get back into the motorsports grid...they have to do more than just release the FT86...they have to play a catch up game they been absent in for 10+ years.

The 10 year old...Soarer/SC430 SuperGT car and the Corolla Axio SuperGT car are the only Toyota cars competing in todays competitive motorsports..which still really equates to nothing to the globe.

Toyota..if you want to bring passion back into your company...pulling a rabbit out of a hat isn't enough. You need to turn that rabbit into a rabbid destructive monster, and release it into an unsuspecting population to do damage. AKA build a competitive car and show a range of motorsports events and say FUCK YOU HATERS!

Only then will i tip my hat off to Toyota..or TRD for that matter.

Yea I don't really like Leo but Toyota really needs to get their butt into gear and use their years of research in motorsports on the ft86

Toyota has only been "dormant" in international motorsports the last 2 years... wtf are you talking about?

And even being "dormant" they are still currently competing in Super GT, NASCAR, Dakkar, SCORE & Formula Nippon as well as supplying engines to Rebellion racing (Le Mans) this year AND a protoype car for BTCC (that was picked up for competition by 2 privateer teams) as well as a next generation touring car (NGTC) engine for BTCC.

NASCAR is nothing to brag about. I dont take it seriously unless its on a track with all kinds of curves. Not just a oval.

...and what has Subaru done in motorsports since they pulled out of the WRC? Yet we don't seem to have the hate directed at them. Motorsports participation is bunk in a lot of ways. Mazda makes some of the best affordable sports cars (not power cars) out there, yet they barely are in factory motorsports.

I totally agree!! Hyundai built a car I love to drive without being in any major motorsport. But the other Hyundais are not up to par though.

mazda is the main sponsor of laguna seca and they have their own race series like star mazda and mx-5 cup... they sponsor tons of grassroots racing. THAT is what a lot of manufacturers should do. no point in trying to beat ferrari or mclaren, and now red bull in F1... no point in trying to beat ford or citroen in wrc... etc...

QFT.

As far as Subaru, they still support lower-level rallying (even though they pulled out of WRC) and have really stepped up their road-racing team since they pulled out of WRC.
I'll go dig up details if i have to...
