We are strange. We do research. Most people don't.

There is a fair bit of wrong info out at the moment, so wait till it settles.

But other reviewers have mentioned the manual premium trim does get RCTA.

The auto premium trim obviously gets everything from eyesight.

Motor trend or autoblog (forget which one) says the auto logic in the new 86 is horrible versus the old one.

Additionally, I read some reviews that new for GR86 are paddles for the auto…which makes me think Toyota is really putting that into their marketing or for the first time ever, region specific will get paddle vs none

Is this speculation or do we know this for a fact? I can’t find any info saying it’s a dedicated speaker.

This is what Toyota told me specifically. Separate speaker just for engine noise. It doesn't sound great tbh. Not awful, but I'd rather turn it off and get a catback.

Nice! Sounds like you could even wire up a patch harness with a switch on the ground wire to turn it on/off.

If they insist on putting a noise-emanating electronic circuit to a hidden in-dash speaker to attract 17-year-olds who wanna hear fake vroooom... why not also, at very little cost, also include a selectable noise-cancellation circuit, a la ANR aviation headsets, that pipe in reverse waves through that very same speaker to help REDUCE volume in the cabin for the rest of us?

It amplifies specific octaves of the actual car engine noise, and pumps them through a dedicated cabin speaker.

You could disconnect the speaker, its probably wired under the footwell or something - it might even have a dedicated fuse you can just pull.

So long as in real life its not offensive to my ears I'll keep it on (I'll note that a lot of journalists liked it).

Def possible! They didn't specify whether it was a microphone-based system or a synthetic DSP-based unit, but I'd guess from the tone of it that there's a DSP hiding somewhere in the car making the noise. Hopefully, something that can easily be unplugged like in the BMWs.

I dunno why they even bothered with the fake engine noise.
Its stupid of them to not even give an option to turn it off.

The more i drive my car the more i prefer it having the hint of boxer rumble and its growliness rather than having the sound smoothed out. It just doesnt and wont sound like an i4 to me, and I dont think it should try to.

I dont really like the full boxer rumble sound either but maybe thats cuz i always hear the obnoxiously loud ones from modders.....

if the fake noise is the biggest complaint people have, then this car is a success.

i'm curious if future brz/gr86 will receive a performance package. not sure if toyota hinted that at the press event.

Not only that but as already mentioned it's probably already such a simple thing to deal with.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but the AT has always had paddles.
