Overfilled oil after service

I took some sandpaper to mine just to roughen up the surface where the markers are. It helped a bit.

The slightest incline or decline will throw the reading off.

You didn't even follow the basic instructions of measuring it when the car has been run and is warm. By letting the car sit for weeks you have let every drop settle into the pan which gives a false high level.
Leave it alone. Slightly high is far better than low.

I track my car, and even with the oil on the full mark when hot, I get oil starvation on high G corners. The crank is about 4 inches higher then the OEM windage shield, it is no where near the oil level. Not to mention at high RPM's boxers tend to trap a lot of oil in the heads and have poor drain back. The oil that is pumped into the heads runs down into the timing cover and drains back into the sump from there in a passageway between the timing area and the upper pan assembly.

If you look at what an accusump does, it dumps quarts worth of extra oil into the system during an oil pressure drop. The few ounces you are over is fine.


High G oil starvation, about 4000-4200rpm. Street car on 200TW tires, 5psi.

Please explain to us how tracking makes this special?

How would a baffle help in this situation?

To add this convo, check the other side of the dipstick. One side always reads higher than the other. Read from the side that reads lowest.

One time a few years ago after doing my own oil change, I thought I had overfilled the oil! I drove over to my local mechanic and showed him and he laughed, and said subarus always read high on one side. Flip the dipstick over and see if it reads lower.

Thank you, this was very helpful info. The guy that offered help to syphon some oil out also took a look at the dipstick and said the same thing as you guys, that i shouldn't worry and that it's actually gonna play in my favour on the track as it might reduce the risk for oil starvation.

My fear was that with the oil level being so high it might slush around on high g corners and reach the crank.

I ended up leaving it alone. You guys can be real mean sometimes

We are a little rough sometimes but not so bad once you get used to it.
