So, if we had done our full yard (about a quarter-acre of grass) it would have been $163,000. That would have been about 2/3 the price of our house at the time.

Artificial turf price have dropped since then. Also you can get some of used turf for fairly cheap. My buddy got part of back yard filled with used turf (turf was used in official football field) and it cost him total of $800 to do everything by himself. Of course, I don't have a huge truck or trailer like him, so I gotta hire specialist to do it, but expected price is about $3k~$7k to do both front & back yard (so my buddy claims).

I'm sure someone sells a mod for that. And if not, you can probably make a killing if you make a mod for that.

My wife takes great joy in manicuring her lawn. I could just sit on her porch and watch.

If my yard was big enough for a riding mower I'd be much more excited about doing the lawn...

If you want to avoid yard work while keeping a lush, green lawn, forget grass and seed the space with “Trifolium repens var Pipolina”. It’s a micro clover that stays green with minimal water, grows short, chokes out “weeds”, and mowing like once a month keeps it from flowering.

Indiana does. The list of things not allowed here is a lot shorter then you might think.

I've considered getting a riding lawn mower just so I can modify it. It'd be a $30k mower by the time I'm done. But the dyno chart would be impressive.

See, my yard is just barely at that point where a riding mower would be worth it, but I currently have no place to keep it.
