We get it Irace, you are a Honda fanboy and don't like the GR Corolla. Hail Honda forever. lol Go enjoy your K swap BRZ or buy a CTR. Point is, people can like and enjoy what they want. This car is more appealing to me, objectively and subjectively. No one should have to defend why something is more appealing than another product unless it deals with their Wife or their second wife.

My last car was a fwd Volvo C30 making 311hp/372lb-ft. I didnít have a quaife front diff in it and it could torque steer like a motherfucker. A couple dudes did an awd conversion and were able to put power to the ground better.

Maybe the ctr doesnít have those problems? Maybe the grc would? Using data from the extremes of a vehicleís capabilities certainly isnít the way to justify what a car is to the Everyman though. Youíre not setting time attack records or Nurburgring records. Youíre driving a car from a company that makes fucking Camrys and Accords.

Really no hint of a price yet on the Corolla. For whatever reasons I expect it to start surprisingly low. A few months back I figured it would be a $40k car any way you slice it but we might end up surprised.

I'm sure you're aware of the numbers floating around in Japan that indicate the Type R will be a little more than the FK8, so about $40k here.

You get that, I get the Type R and maybe I can finally beat you. No tight twisty tracks though

Reminds me of a survey or something I'd heard of where a bunch of people swore to god that Toyota made the Accord, or Honda made the Corolla or something like that. Couldn't find it with a quick google. Fun quirks of humanity.

It illustrates, along with other examples, that FWD cars seem to do fine against their AWD counterparts in the most extreme situations on tarmac, so it begs the question if AWD is needed for the average buyer. The fact is that many people buy AWD CUVs and SUVs and 4WD trucks, but the vast majority never need or use the systems, nor to they tow, in the case of trucks, and I was wondering if the same belief that AWD is necessary or better was in the car community. I didn't know if the AWD was the appeal or if it was the looks along with the engine like if they only added one or two features to the Corolla hatchback, what was selling people, or would they prefer the same package without the AWD for less weight, maybe even undercutting the CTR's weight, and perhaps for less money?
Most people with SUVs don't need AWD (I'd argue most don't option for it), and most people that buy SUVs don't (or will ever) need an SUV, at all.

Performance-wise, most people, given the option, don't want all the power going through the front wheels. It's the least appealing option. Overwhelmed tires, unbalanced chassis, weight transfer in the wrong direction, torque steer, and completely mudding up any steering feel and feedback. These items aren't opinion, they are facts. Do some people care about all those negatives? Sure, some don't (But the issues are still there). Can you "make it work"? Of course, but why bother if you don't have to.

As someone who grew up when the Evo and STi first came out stateside, the Corolla is really attractive to me. Light weight, hatch, AWD, turbo, good chassis. It's a modern day Evo that doesn't have a crappy interior and a far more reliable engine. I don't really need the practicality of it, but damn the package is attractive. I'll either get one of these for a GR86 Performance Pack if they come out with one. There won't be many more cars that are this focused in the future.

Of course, this applies to just about any vehicle type, especially sports and performance cars. Unless you make your living on the track, you don't "need" them either.

Not sure why everyone seems to think they should edict what others should drive. @WolfpackS2k not picking on you specifically. I know plenty of pickup truck drivers that can't understand why anyone would drive anything else. Applies to just about any mode of transportation.

Didn't you know that if you don't drive the piss out of your Twin you bought the wrong car? I have been told that many many times on here.
Apparently every other person drives them 10/10 all the time even on their morning commute!

Hell just a month ago I had the audacity of saying I didn't care about weight when talking about the new Z!

I say Kswap everything in my Avatar, but Iím not a Honda fanboy, more of a K series fan like a 2JZ or LS fan. Iíd actually like to get into a GR86 once Harrop releases another supercharger because that positive displacement supercharger I had on the FA platform was so enjoyable, even better than my current setup.

I hope no one felt the need to defend their choice, when I was asking what was appealing about the car most for them. Kind of like a poll with more explanation than just select: (motor), (awd), (looks), (value), (utility)Ösomeone saying AWD for region or for rallying or for safety or for performance or multiple is all different reasons.

Ah ok. It just came off as pretentious. I just relish the idea of more competition and because I find the new generation of civic to be fuck ugly.

Again my point was that the car will come with a premium and part of that is an AWD system that might just be more weight, complexity, maintenance, etc that may not be need. It is like, ĎHey look, FWD cars and RWD cars are just as fast or faster on tarmac, so is it worth it?í Thatís why I wanted to know what was appealing about the car over a GTI, CTR, Veloster, etc. with 2.0T 4 cylinders.

Frankly, I would like the 1.6T over the other engines just because of D4S; from a tuning perspective, it is just so nice. But again, that would be my interest, so Iím wondering what others are thinking.
