I've been interested in performing this mod but struggling to find these modules, and Lee's parts never seems to have them in stock. Any other advice?

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know if the ABS is less intrusive on the newer units too?

If you trigger ABS / locking wheels on braking, most probably you do something wrong with driving inputs, brake too late, turn too much while not having yet eased brakes enough in trailbraking or overdid on braking while treshold braking.
Or you meant VSC intrusiveness, not ABS, which this thread is mostly about? (track mode/pedal dance and alikes leave ABS on).

I'm more asking about ice mode

Just wrapped up this DIY, thank you so much for everyone who contributed/documented this! Few tips for those fielding this:

The big wiring connector that plugs into the stability control module will not plug back in unless the pink sliders (used to lock the wires) are in the "locked" position. Don't force it, it should slide on easily.

Similarly, when pulling the wires out to re-pin them... If the wires are unlocked they should pull out of the connector with ease, you shouldn't have to force them at all. If you have to pull the wire with much force it's likely locked, check the pink connectors again as well as the locks in the front side.

Lastly, I went for a drive after completing this and attempted a hill start to "confirm" the new programming was there. When hill start didn't work I was concerned I did something wrong, but searching on these forums confirmed hill start is not enabled by default. I don't want/need it so not an issue here, but if you're using the hill start test as a way to confirm you're set you'll have to enable it.

By just pressing VSC Sport button (now Track mode). It'll take 1 second to turn on.

Yep. Code is U0122 lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module. Yes I did the repin. 2013 FRS. I'll pull out alert tomorrow and check I have things in the right place. Anyone else get this code?

Did you ever get the original unit working before you tried the 2017?

Nope. For background, I posted here about issues I was having with pedal dance, and 4 ABS module codes I had: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146096

C1237: Speed Wheel Rear Input Signal Missing
C1332: Open Circuit In Right Rear Speed Sensor Circuit
C1333: Open Circuit In Left Rear Speed Sensor Circuit
C1464: Front Speed Sensor Right
C1465: Front Speed Sensor Left
C1541: Vehicle Speed Signal Malfunction

Instead of trying to fix that issue with the original controller -- and I don't know how would do that without replacing in kind -- I decided to try this upgrade to the 2017 controller. That way I might not need my tracbox or at least I'd have options. I tried the swap described in this thread and the photo and U0122 code a couple posts above was the result.

I've got an even this weekend, so at this point I'm going to check I got the wires in the right pin locations with the 2017 module. If that's not the issue I'm putting the old module back in. 5-sec hold will have to do for now. Appreciate any suggestions you all might have.
