OBD plug not working... Kinda - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

So I have a cheap OBD Bluetooth transmitter that works with my gf's 350z and her f250. It previously worked with my FRS. Now it refuses to work with my FRS. When plugged in to the other 2 vehicles a light on the Bluetooth unit comes on with the key OFF. In the FRS, no lights come on ever. I thought my plug was bad but my ECUtek dongle works fine. So why does my ECUtek dongle work but the Bluetooth doesn't? I already tried bending pins and I tried the Bluetooth with and without an extender

Mine gets lights but doesn't show up on my phone, determined it was an incompatible device with my phone :/

But I've already used it. That's the weird part. The unit doesn't even try to come on but works fine on the other 2 cars

Definitely strange, could be a bad connection. Make sure it's seated correctly and then trace the wires / check the fuse.

The OBD2 port on the FR-S and BRZ is very finicky. It's easy to bend the pins if your OBD2 dongle isn't a perfect fit.

If you install and remove the dongle a bunch of times, it's pretty common to bend the pins.

As a first troubleshooting step, try using an OBD2 extension cable between the Bluetooth dongle and your car. $8 on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2vY3sU4

@Ashikabi - your next option is to either try a different dongle, or re-pin the OBD2 port.

Do you have more info on repinning? Google didn't turn up squat for me but I may be using the wrong terms

BT adapters don't last forever, luckily, they're cheap. Just get another one off Amazon.

I've noticed the harness is wound REALLY tight, and I need to adjust mine sometimes to get my ecutek cable to link properly. Removing the tape and freeing up some slack may help. It's likely just one pin is being pulled back some or losing the crimp from the tension.

Fuse is blow
The obd port power is supplied by fuse
The Bluetooth dongle requires power from obd port

check for 12v on pin 16 of obd port

The Ecutek cable gets it power from laptop

No power to pin 16 but all fuses are good. Broken wire?

Search for OBD. Their is a specific OBD fuse 7.5 A pull it and check with multimeter

Its possible it broken wire but unlikely
