*Accident* A once perfect 86 is no more.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how tiny and hard to see our car is for other people.

Poor guy had bought his car 10 minutes prior to this accident, and he was understandably livid. Both insurance companies said other driver is 100% at fault. But still doesn't feel good that my 86 is now a refurbished one to some degree.

Unfortunately crash is muted due to stupid Youtube copyright rules.

I don’t know man, I’m happy for you that insurance ruled in your favor, but that guy was obviously waiting to go right, blinker or not. Still kinda weird he didn’t see you.

Edit: as far as the damage, that’s incredibly superficial. You probably won’t even need new parts except for the grille insert. Have insurance fix it and then you can get over it, the car is fine.

Yeah his car definitely got the worst of it. My damage isn't bad at all considering.

tough luck OP but seems pretty lucky that the insurance deemed it other driver's fault. if i was in that situation seeing a driver with no blinker on and slightly angled towards the right, i would not have pulled up besides them like that many folks in the US should not be driving...lack of blinkers, always reports of wrong ways on the highways, lots of random lane hopping from turn lanes, tailgating for days...

At the time, I just figured he approached the exit kind of janky. Happens a lot right there. The guy to my left also thought the other driver was going left as he pulled behind with his left blinker.

But yeah this was totally avoidable on my part. The worst thing is when I found out he was turning right, I tried to slam the car in reverse. You can see the second half of the collision I started to go reverse, just half a second too late.

I have been extra careful not to be beside any vehicle ever since the day I was taking the company truck home and parked my seemingly high visibility bright orange car besides it.

Even somebody actually looking could easily not see it!

Grey, white or black would be almost invisible.

To be fair, I leave at angles like that even when I intend to go straight or left because of how low my car is.

Maybe the other dude just traded in his slammed 93' civic and was used to doing the same

As much as I hate my current monster truck height I do not miss the advanced geometry calculations required to enter and exit some parking lots and driveways with the old FRS.

And then wince when you hear that inevitable CRUUNNCH from an incorrect entry. After the 10th scrape, I sort of gave up.

I got pretty good at determining correct approach vectors. Speed bumps were the worst.

100% would not have went in-between him like that. I can see how his attention being focused on the traffic coming would've blinded him for someone being right beside him.

The driver should have been more attentive. Not just your car being next to him and maybe hard to see, but bikes, motorcycles and pedestrians could all suffer the same fate without a careful shoulder check to the right.

My dad taught me to drive and one of the best lessons he ever taught me is to watch cars nearby and think about what the drivers will do.

Basically, nothing should ever be a "surprise".

Yes the guy didn't use his signal. What if it was broken? What if it's an old person who forgets things like using a signal? What if there was something going on in one direction or the other that you hadn't seen yet from your initial position, that he/she was waiting on?

I can fault the other driver for not looking to his right before turning right, and you for attempting to pass him on the right hand side, when it appeared (sans blinker) that he was intending to turn right by the way he was angled.

However, you weren't in motion when the collision occurred AND it appeared that you had to chase him down as it looked like he was attempting to hit-and-run.

To sum this up, three bads on the other driver and one bad on you, and from my perspective, that means it's mostly his fault, but partially yours.

I would add all the damages up between both cars and designate you or your insurance to pay one-quarter of the total repair costs and him or his insurance to pay the remaining three-quarters.

But I'm not an attorney and this isn't legal advice.
