That's a great way to do it if you want a real easy, hands free experience. In most cases it's a great idea in the US as well, but here in California it really doesn't make much of a difference. I check with agents every year or so and they always come up with a rate about 150% of what I pay now. |

Yeah, when you have multiple types of insurance an agent is the best. Especially if they can get you bundled with a company that offers big discounts for keeping multiple policies with them. |

I'm 34, have GEICO and pay $383.67 every 6 months.
That's for $100k/$300k bodily injury, uninsured/underinsured, $100k personal property, $1k comprehensive/collision deductible, and $3.71 for roadside assistance. I've had 3 tickets over the last 6 years, one for running a stop sign, another for tailgating, and the last for speeding, of which I opted for driving school each time and been involved in two not-at-fault accidents: one October last year (~$950 in damage), the other back in January (~2800 in damage). For what it's worth. |

Had GEICO 2 years ago. Rates went up about 30%.
Switched to AAA at the same price I was paying before GEICO's increase. A year later AAA raised the rate by 30%. So I switched back to GEICO at the same rate I was paying before. By the way, AAA in California is terrible. Someone hit me and I didn't feel like AAA cared. Tough to get them on the phone, they did nothing to fight the lady who hit me, and their estimate of the damage was ridiculously low. TL;DR - AAA sucks! |

I know the rates are going up at least 5-10% in MA. They are blaming cell phone related accidents though. I can imagine that is on top of the the cars already increasing premium rates since used versions are getting pretty cheap.

Our rates are pretty high in Arizona since we have all these senior citizens like TCoat and Humfrz driving around.

I could lower rates a little but am not interested in changing companies based on the service... never been at fault, and they've been the ones to do the legwork in all but one case. I'm with Amica. I think we pay just shy of $1500 for two cars annually, but also with us being older and discounts for multi-vehicle and homeowners policy with them. That's with not driving to work and garaged cars, but in the city. And it's been going up every year on the BRZ because of the demographic... Bad drivers in the car makes us all pay. |

45 years old. Been with my insurance company since 2003. Haven't had a ticket of any kind since 2001. Zero accidents. Zero claims. Four vehicles insured (one for business). Got handed a 27% premium increase in 2015 with no explanation. So I dropped them with no explanation. I was called the next day as to why. Explained it...and the agent told me that I got the rate hike because of other drivers with the same vehicles having a disproportionate amount of incidents compared to the average. I called... Ultimately, it all ended well. They invited me back at about 5% less than I was paying them previously. You just have to speak their language sometimes I guess. |

On the other hand our new BMW and Toyota 86 cost half that much to insure. Here's a trick you might be able to try depending on your age, driving history and how safe of a driver you think you are: Increase your deductible. We are saving over $2,000 a year on insurance for our vehicles simply by taking on more risk and raising our deductibles to $2,500. Neither my wife nor I have had any accidents during our entire driving history (over 30 years in my case). Insurance companies don't care. So, if you think you are a good bet, look into changing your deductible. My recommendation is to put that much money away and forget about it for when/if you might need it. |

Just got mine and it went up about $20 a month more compared to my 16 mazda 6 GT. The Mazda being a car about +$5000 in value vs 86

I've had two speeding tickets in my lifetime of driving (about 40 years worth) and none in the past 20 years. AAA rates weren't bad, but the service was SO abysmal that it really wasn't insurance; it was more like paying a fee for the privilege of driving legally. You didn't ever REALLY get anything for your money in the unfortunate event of even a no-fault accident. Liberty Mutual now. Decent enough rates, but my agent isn't the easist guy to contact for changes, either, and they won't insure my house because I have a German Shepherd. SOoooo stupid... I've owned German Shepherds without a single incident for over 30 years. Soo.. there goes the multi-discount. Might have to start shopping around AGAIN, I guess. Not a big fan of insurance companies in general so far.

And I've shopped around and without me bugging them, my rates have been consistent. This is on top of me changing cars on my policy every 3-6 months or so... -alex |

@mav1178 - just hope that you never have a claim. The guy at the body shop where I took my car said that AAA consistently pays very low amounts on repairs compared to other providers.
