Hello again Gents,

Many Thanks for your feedback.

I cross fingers that in France we will not suffer too much from this risk of engine Failure after recall.

Update on my situation: I had recall work done in Feb 2019. Engine blew up in May 2019 (piston rod broke). Dealership refused to take responsibility of issue even after I opened up the engine my self and proved it was improper sealant application (oil screen and several galleries were plugged with sealant and sealants were on parts of the engine covers that weren't supposed too (Reference the J02 valve spring job aid, big help). Ended up having a Subaru dealership put a used engine in it (that hasn't had the recall work done, but I'm nervous on having it done).

I took the Toyota dealership to small claims court and won. Took 9 months but recouped cost for the used engine, rental car while it was being repaired, depreciation on my car (used engine has many more kms on it), and some costs for court fees and my time. Overall very shitty experience.

Good luck out there everyone on dealing with this.

I'm at 79k miles in my FRS. Slight oil leak on the timing cover. I'm thinking about getting the recall done before I install headers. But I barely drive this car since I have another car I drive daily. I'm afraid after getting the recall done, I won't drive the car enough to experience the potential failure since it's only drive about 300 miles a month (maybe less).

Is it still worth getting the recall done since a lot of time has passed? I'm located in Gainesville, FL and Gatorland Toyota is the local dealer who will be performing the recall.

State: JACKSONVILLE, FL USA
Dealership Offering Repair: ERNIE PALMER TOYOTA

dealer said $600ish for diagnostic and open up the engine, it looks like im in a middle to pay them and ive contact the toyota corporate about the situation and this case manager is hard to reach always the customer service giving me answer what noted by case manager on their computer and gave me case number. ive been complaining about the situation and telling them im not obligated to pay that 600$ fee, money are in depleted right now due to father's heart transplant medical bills that happen last year. so far my FRS is on the dealer for 2 weeks now still in slow progress

I wouldn't bother. The only place that it is forced is California.

UPDATE: TOYOTA CORP and my CAR DEALER helps me to fix my car with no cost on my pocket as they investigated clearly that it is not my fault causing my car 41k miles to stall and rod bearing problem from J02 RECALL due to recent passing of my father, they got sympathy on my car problems as right now i got my car back and enjoying it..

What is the name of your car dealership?
It's where I want to buy my next car.

Any luck California will let me register this year without the recall work? I sent an email to the DMV asking to let me register without the recall work citing COVID concerns and I haven't heard back yet.

What were the COVID concerns that you stated? Dealerships are still performing service on cars, so that can't be it.

You’ll probably push it off for a while longer. I did mine back in December for my registration, and my motor blew two weeks ago. But before I did the recall the motor and tube went all back to stock and kept it stock till the motor blew. All this was done so they couldn’t just blow me off by “stating modified”. Best of luck

Just created an account to see if anybody could point me in the right direction regarding representation in the Dallas TX area.

I too had the recall done and now I'm fighting that uphill battle and I'm unwilling to have the dealership who performed the recall to look at the vehicle for fear they might cover their behinds. Did the recall with them and shortly after my engine started knocking and stalled. I fear its oil starvation as a result of the spring recall.

Any insight as if I should allow the dealership who did the work to handle it or what route I should take? Called attorneys to no avail and have contacted Toyota corporate but they cant do anything until its been diagnosed.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Candyflippin360 and welcome -

Too bad your machine is acting up.

I reckon your best (maybe only) choice, is to take it back to the dealer that did the work, if you want warranty coverage.

Car: Scion FRS 2013 - M/T
Mileage: ~99,300 miles
Prior Issues: None
Mods: Intake, Lowering Springs and Exhaust

Hi,

I recently sent my Scion FRS 2013 to do the recall last week 7/08/20. They called me yesterday stating there's metal shavings in my oil and I am somewhat skeptical about this because I recently got my oil change done and they didn't mention anything about metal shavings in my oil. They also mention they will need to do an engine tear down in order to see what's the problem. This tear down is similar cost to what I've seen on the forum $2000. I called Toyota back and they said since I opted out on the engine tear down this will also void the recall warranty due to pre-existing conditions "metal shavings in oil" Keep in mind, before the call I stated to the Rep that I've read there are numerous issues after the recall. They then specified again that since I opted out of the engine inspection/tear down I will not be covered...

Sounds like they're using this "pre-existing condition" as way of covering themselves in the future, if the engine fails...

Common thing I've noticed with some reads are:
1. Take care for recall
2. Toyota calls them and wants them to pay $$ for engine tear down
3. Toyota states engine needs work so more $$ needs
4. Eventually they need to replace the engine $9,000 total cost

What do you guys recommend I should do?
