RE71R is highly specialised tire that for specific purpose gives up lot of things in other areas. Hence imho unfit to fill role of universal tire with no very weak points, which tire used for daily driving should be. Top grip at specific auto-x use of these one lap wonders is not what is required formost from driving on public roads within legal limits. Yet one's wallet may feel quick wear, wet grip might be limited, and how about noise level/comfort/rim protection/rolling resistance(=fuel economy)/handling feel/predictable progressiveness? Imho it's enough for dry grip be good/reasonable, not best at expense of everything else. I don't see much people driving around in city on hoosier drag slicks as if it had been other way around. Right tool for right job.

I'd go go PS4S or Extreme contact sports depending on your climate. I am on the ECS since it rains a lot here and they handle standing water pretty well.

Could be a wear issue, I do think it gets a bit worse over time. However the tirerack review of them comments on the noise they were getting also on presumably a fresh set.

Echoing everyone else, two sets of tires are the answer. I use the RE-71r exclusively for track days and autocross, 17x9 with 245s. For the street I like a narrow wheel, 17x7.5 with a 215/45/17 like the Continental Extreme Contact Sport. This improves ride comfort, keeps the car playful and doesn't make a ton of noise.

Alright, I’m going to put on my asbestos underwear for when the flames start-a-coming, but hear me out: the Maxxis RC-1. If your car truly is a daily driver that sees cool temperatures, rain, or God forbid, snow, then the RC-1s aren’t for you, but if you’re like me and have stiffer dampers and only drive your car during the warmer months, you’ll have an absolute blast on them. You obviously like grip and the RC-1s have more grip when cold than a Michelin PS4S does when hot, they’re very quiet, they’re long lasting, they’re affordable, and you’ll never overheat them on street (which can’t be said of the Bridgestone RE-71R you’re currently running). They even work pretty damn well on wet pavement as long as there’s no standing water and temperatures are above about 45°. I absolutely love them and I’ve never driven on a street tire that has more mechanical grip, and after having R-comps (like you) I wouldn’t want to give them up.

Seriously, I’m only halfheartedly suggessting these for you, but if your needs even remotely mirror mine, I say go for it - you won’t be disappointed.

I came from the RS3s and now running the new Extreme Contact Sports, it is a MUCH quieter ride and a lot more comfortable. I will probably run these tires again as I think it's the best DD tire especially for the price.

It also handles rain a hell of a lot better, grip is amazing. I never used PSS before but from what I read this is pretty much what Continental designed these tires to compete against. The price also is VERY competitive....Would recommend as a DD
