86/brz roof rack???

Hi! Is there a roof rack for the 86?

I read a post regarding the yakima q towers with q91 clips but yakima discontinued the clips already. I was wondering if there is an alternative (besides the seasucker ones)

Hopefully someone managed to mount a rack onto our car.

Thanks!

I'm also interested in this. so long as it's fairly easily removable. I'd like to be able to transport my mountain bike.

Rhino rack sells some, but they involve drilling. I plan on going this route when I, hoepfully, pick up my new to me BRZ next week.

I wonder if Yakima didn't quit selling them because they learned something interesting about the roof.

I would think Subie designed the roof strong enough to stand up during something like a roll over. I can’t imagine a roof rack to be worse than that, but I could be wrong.

I was only half kidding. I've been thinking about a roof rack for my board too...

...but last year I cratered it leaning over to buff out some wax. Just a little divot but fuuuuuuuu.....

My point is, yes, the chassis is superbly engineered. The roof is an integral part of that design but it is covered with a paper thin veneer of steel for moar lightness.

Why did Yakima discontinue their offering?

but you are right though, there have been reports of roof bending because of the tension. They only noticed it on racks that have been mounted on an extended period of time ( i would guess months?)

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15028

im guessing they discontinued because of the damage reports. if there was an alternative where it wouldnt cause "damage" im totally up for it but right now I only see seasuckers as a possible substitute, reviews on it are great but im prolly still going to be nervous knowing that my gear is only mounted through suction cups. LOL

I would use a trailer hitch (like twin hitch) and a hitch rack

BTW, my road bike fits in the trunk if I fold the rear seats and remove the front wheel.

Yeah it would definitely fit in the back with the wheel off. However I often go camping with the bike. So I'd need that space for sleeping gear. That twin hitch looks promising. I have a bike wrack that should fit that setup.

Someone mentioned the window sills being deformed over time in one of the roof rack threads. In addition to the paint damage and possible deformed sheet metal. If you're determined, there are probably used clips from the few that bought them. I've been looking at a roof rack versus a tow hitch for a hard body kayak for awhile now.

I ended up getting an inflatable kayak for the time being. But the mess it makes is atrocious. It came with a carry bag and I still get sand and seaweed everywhere. I'm still leary about towing or installing a roof rack with my BRZ though. If I had my Mazda3 here with me then it'd be a no-brainer. I wouldn't care if that got scratched up.

I did the exact same thing to mine... it was on the drivers side so I saw it every day and it bothered me, so I paid $125 to have it pulled out. And it looked like new.... 3 weeks later I was leaning on the same spot and it's back...
