You're right! I along with Essex, Brembo, Subaru, Porsche, *insert company here* know nothing about thermal capacity and how it relates to braking performance. oh well. back to the track with my single pot calipers |

Don't forget this: stock brakes are perfectly fine for 99% of drivers.

However if you do a search for "taco" using the search function, you'll see "reputable" member posting about limitation of stock brakes including "tacoing" |

You are arguing against points no one is making. Of course much bigger rotors with fixed 4-piston calipers and much bigger pads are going to have more thermal capacity. But the dinky base-model stock rotors and calipers, with appropriate pads and fluid, have more than enough thermal capacity for *most* people tracking these cars at HPDEs. I don't think anyone has made the argument that BBK serve no function for anyone. For sure if you are doing endurance events, or have significantly greater than stock hp, or significant downforce, you're a lot more likely to need moar brakeage! But as for actual *performance*, as in rate of deceleration, BBK isn't going to do anything for you in terms of decreasing lap times over a short stint. If brakes aren't cooked and front/rear balance is good, deceleration is a function of tire grip, period. This is my world, I run A052 tires for time trials competition, and they just aren't up to extended sessions. I got the PP Brembo BRZ for two reasons: 1) ease of pad swaps and 2) they look kick-ass. Unfortunately my club has (misguidedly!) saddled down Brembo-equipped 1st-gen FT86s with +60 lb. vs. base models :'( B.S., I'd rather have base brakes and run 60 lb. lighter... |
