16 inch wheels on this car..?
is it a good idea?
what I mean is... I really like this size (tire and rim size) and I'm searching for and oldschool look mag, and i wonder is it a good idea? I'm having a real hard time to find wheels in this size (like 16x8 ir 16x9) and as light as possible (i dont have an unlimited budget, but even without considering money, it seems everywhere is 17-18-19 inches...) also, for track use, is it a bad idea? i'm looking for tire like Falken azenis, and will tiresidewall on 16 inches wheels ruin the driving experience? all in all... is it a good idea to seek 16inch oldschool look wheels for this car? (sorry for my poor english quality!) |

Based on what you're trying to do, I'd recommend going to 15's. Much more wheels to choose. Tyre selection is MUCH better. You can still get decent brakes under them, th wilwood kit that they make for a wrx for example.
You'll need to be around the 15x7 +25 mark. They can't sit too far in, as the 15" rim doesn't clear one of the suspension joints (I forget which) so it needs to sit out. I was considering doing this myself at one point, mainly because of the look, but also because my race car uses 15s so I already have a lot of semis and full slicks I could have used. |

Both 15 and 16 will work. 16's come stock on the base model in other countries. Tire sizes are better in 17 for our car. I couldn't find a great selection of tires in the sizes needed for 15 or 16. I got rid of my 16's on the s2000 because of the tire selection.

This car benefits from wider tires. 17 is the smallest wheel you should fit.
225/45x17 is probably the sweet spot size for street driving. Going down a size must be purely for the look. Because the car looks modern the smaller rims will look odd, but everyone's taste is different. The stock tire size would require a 205/55x16 which is pretty narrow. 225/50x16 would fit better on a 16x7 wheel but is this size available? |

The Australian 86 "GT" model, comes stock with 16". Some say they actually work better on the car. A little more compliance. Personally i am thinking about this, but would def go a little wider for more rubber on the road.
Discussed here: http://*************/forum/f21/16-oe...s-better-3949/ OK, thats he Austalian forum.. gt - 86 - com - au wont show the proper link sorry. Last edited by AUmarvin; 11-20-2013 at 04:54 PM. Reason: bad link |

I have 16's on my car 16x8.5 +14 16x9.5 +16, they are CCW Classic so they are really lightweight (also im selling them Kinda a pain finding tires, though I always end up stretching my tires since I like the effect it gives.

I have 16" wheels for the track with 225/45 and 225/50 tires. I also just got some RPF1 with 225/45-17 for the track. I plan on trying both to determine what works better. So far the weight difference is minor, with the 16" wheels winning.

a small shop near montreal.
I have to say that these are copy, not real BBS. I really searched everywhere for these kind of rims (oldschool type) and, didn't found other models that i liked, so in the end, I took those! they are probably not as lightweight as real one (i think they are around 19-20lbs each) but... for the price i got them (500$), I couldn't pass on this deal! |
