Over the "hump" on my last week of work (retiring this Friday 12/20/24). My office is empty of all personal items except one framed collection of the Wright Brothers patent applications and a mini-fridge.

I've entered the surreal zone....

I still can’t come to terms with not working. I wasn’t given the opportunity to retire. I was terminated without cause and without notice. Yes, I’ve ranted on about this before, sorry. Still bothers me over 7 years later. I was able to fill one box before being ushered out the door. I realized too late all the stuff I forgot which included the work order to have my 1969 Chevelle SS 427 engine rebuilt under warranty. That piece of paper was the proof that my car was a legitimate Factory Authorized dealer installed 427. I had taken it into work to photo copy it. Now lost forever.

Yea, I can see that, definitely would not feel the same.

I've had a paying job since I was 10 years old of one sort or another. 56 years just feels like long enough.

Still, as @Sapphireho eludes, I find it hard to say I'm retired particularly since I don't have pension to speak of. Basically I'm going to be "self" employed of sorts with a little help from Uncle Sam.

Fortunately, its not a money concern just a fear of the unknown. Seriously doubt I'll regret it though!

You know what I going to do tomorrow? Whatever I f-ing want!

I'm still getting used to retirement and it will be 6 years in May.

I get to start social security next year. Yay, pay raise! I'm buying a new truck. I'm getting a 250 diesel and going to pull my helicopter around just to show it off.

My wife and I went to Beetlejuice the musical at Morrison Center in Boise tonight. It was way more entertaining than I expected. First time the wife of I had been to a live play in our lives. Very fun.

mmmmm, only the COPOs and the Yenkos came with factory 427s. Dealer installed you say? Interesting.

Coincidentally, my dad's last day at work is today, technically he "retires" on January 3rd. (Also I'm mildly concerned that my phone knew what date I was referring to automatically...).

My phone suggested "January 3rd" automatically after I typed that my dad was retiring.
