How to dispose of spare parts?
When I bought my '20 86 back in 2021, I had the stock exhaust, struts, sway bars and wheels swapped out for TRD parts.
I kept the wheels, thinking I'd eventually get some winter tires (still the plan). My wife insisted I keep the other parts as well, just in case "I changed my mind" - which was more about her being concerned that the car would be too loud with the TRD exhaust. Well, she's decided that exhaust is fine. So I'd like to get rid of these parts (except the wheels). I've asked previously on a regional form (I live near Pittsburgh) but no one wants the parts. So I want to just dispose of them. I called the dealer I got the car from but they don't want the parts even though they only had about 100 miles on them. So - does anyone know how I can dispose of them, beyond just putting them in the trash? |

First, welcome fellow Pittsburgher. I've been meaning to get a Pittsburgh BRZ/twin group together. We already have regular monthly Subaru meets, so if you're interested in that, let me know. It's more or less moving to be a group of mostly Subaru people, but people bring other cars like JDM Supra and whatever now. I also autocross with a ton of people with twins.
Anyways, I actually just dropped a bunch of stuff off at Michael Brothers Recycling this weekend. 6 rotors, two mufflers (in good shape too), etc. I got a total of $3.48. Yay. Not many people want stock parts. I kept those WRX mufflers for like over a year. I still have my stock BRZ exhaust too. I'd consider making a good attempt at selling the parts before recycling or junking them. That's a last resort. People do want/need stock exhausts and struts sometimes. For real though, if you don't want the suspension, I'd be interested in taking that off your hands. We have a lot of autocrossers that need suspension refreshes or want to go back to a stock class.

Thanks for the info on the parts, could definitely get you the parts and see if Michael Brothers would take the exhaust. What's the easiest way to do that? I've heard of the autocross at the North Park pool but not attended it, I don't know when the next one is. Or I could meet you somewhere |

Agreed. Post them up on the appropriate forum For Sale category priced at less than 50% of new cost OBO and hope for the best. If they don’t move try Facebook Marketplace and expect to get robbed. After all, by the sounds of it the scrap dealers pay less than the cost you driving there to drop off.

if you want to get rid of it, 50% of new cost is a heck of a high price. that's really pushing to turn a profit on parts that you can't be bothered to care enough to keep around. post it for "free plus shipping", or bring it to a local car meet. free parts among gear heads disappear really quickly.

I may or may not have a closet in my basement filled with FRS parts.

My advise would be to keep stock parts. 1) if you'll ever need spare, you'll have something to put back temporarily (as some aftermarket part delivery times might be long, sometimes in addition also new batch manufacturing times, and sometimes some aftermarket part might be already discontinued. Something (OE) is better then nothing/unusable car. 2) almost always one can sell car for more and far easier if it's "stock", so many return it to stock prior sale. Another big, if not THE reason to have stock parts around.

I can take the struts and sway bars if you still have them! They'd make a nice upgrade for my 2014.
