Strange call from dealer offering me a new 2016 FRS for my old 2014 one??!

So a couple of weeks back I got a call from my dealer in Wilsonville, OR telling me that I can sell my car (2014 FRS) to him in return for a new 2016 FRS for no extra cost and keep making my payments as usual. Since, I've now moved to the Bay Area, I told him that it seems like an interesting offer but it won't be possible for me to travel and deal with registering it in California. So that was that.

Fast forward to today, I call a dealer in Santa Clara, CA to schedule a service he offers me the same deal. Which I found really weird. Anyways, I scheduled the appointment for tomorrow and I'll update on what he says.

Is it that old FRSs are in huge demand right now? What's going on, have you guys had a similar experience? Should I go for it?

It's just a way to get more money. It's doubtful they'll trade your '14 for a '16 for no additional costs.

NO NO NO NO
This is a marketing scam by car dealers since the first Model T hit the showroom.
They will make all sorts of statements but think about it for a second are they really going to save you money or make it themselves?

My wife fell for this once and we lost huge in the long run (ever try to tell your wife no????)

Every make send these things out by mail or calls customers so don't think the FRS is special. Hell I get these letters every couple of months from Mitsu and I haven't even owned the car for a year and a half and they know it.

Oh yeah, they absolutely would and they are actually hoping that people will be stupid enough to fall for it. If you read the offer carefully, you will realize that the monthly payments remain the same but the loan is now extended to the duration of the original loan term. There is always a catch somewhere.

Very simple. Your payments may stay the same but they will go for another 24-30 months on the new car vs. your old car payment schedule. If you become so focused on the monthly payment, you may not realize that you just went from having 3 years left to having 5 or 6 years left.

I was pretty sure there would be catch. Makes sense though how some people could get duped by this. I mean I got me pretty interested too. But I'll still go in tomorrow and try to have a little fun with it. Damn you dealer scum!!

Thanks guys!!

Like any other business the first thing dealers need to do is get people to walk in the door and this is an effective method.
Please don't go play games with them. They are just trying to make a living and no matter how sleazy it sounds this is an accepted business practice used across the industry. How would you like it if some guy came into your workplace, purposefully wasted your time as a joke and then walked away?

You get like 2k to 10k added, interest goes up. So say you have 3yrs left and 17k left, well now you have 25k left in 5yrs.

Only heard of Ford doing this. This was with the focus cars.

I get these letters from the dealership that I sold my old Nissan Altima to...which doesn't make sense because they already have my old car?

I used to get these for my 10 year old Dodge Grand Caravan.
It's not the slightest bit rational.

They want you drooling when you come in the door.
