@ermax I skipped right over your link. Also the imgur album doesn't load completely, so I'm going to repost what the entire album here, for posterity and so that it doesn't get buried so easily:

Bend these tabs back to release cover plate.

View with cover plate removed

Rubber bushings removed

Separate rubber bushing from plastic piece.

Added three layers duct tape on plastic piece. Used exacto knife to cut small hole in each layer for that nub to poke through.

Put nuts back on temporarily to hold cover plate on so I could bend tabs back in place.

Just wanted to report that ermax's mod is still working great after almost a year of use. It has enhanced my life greatly. No more bruised shins!

Mine stopped closing on me all on it's own. Not sure if it is broke or just doesn't love me anymore. I miss my hugs.

You are my hero.

There are 3 things I hate about my BRZ:

1) The stock shift knob is disgusting (fixed)
2) It doesn't have a 700 HP fire-breathing 2J (working on it)
3) The doors hate me, my kids, my shins, and anything that dare attempt to get in their way (going to fix now)

Thanks!
