Fair enough. I suppose I have too with a similar experience. I gravitate towards Southwest because BWI has been my primary airport for years now and it is a Southwest hub with a lot of direct flights.

As for Spirit, it seems like their infrastructure just wasn't all there when I used them, and the customer service folks were overwhelmed and/or not efficient in both airports. So that signals higher risk to me. Maybe it was just that they had more difficult passengers due to lower prices bringing in less experienced travelers?

That’s usually a good plan to stick with airlines that have a hub on your route.

I had the same opinion on Spirit. They only had one flight leaving Detroit a day. That’s why they couldn’t get me out for another day. I’ve been stuck before but usually not for more then 6 hours or they would be able to get me out on a flight that could get me to an airport with a connection to where I was going next.

haven't made one, but been around enough construction sites that they're built/installed. very easy to do with a little trimwork magic.

just be sure to make the door swing into the hidden room. the other way around ruins the effect when it starts scratching the floor.

It took me four hours and six calls to different people to make them understand that all three of the Canadian sites were right smack in the middle the Great Lakes basin (two are on the bloody shores of the lakes) which has 20% of the worlds surface fresh water and it isn't disappearing tomorrow. Apparently they got their "data" from some activist website that swore the great lakes would be empty within 10 years!
lol, the average depth of just lake superior is 483ft. it's got 3 quadrillion gallons in it--one google factoid says it's enough to flood all of north and south america with a foot of water..

if the globe consumed that much water in 10 years, it would outpace oil consumption at a rate that requires thinking and calculus just to discuss haphazardly!

We flew Spirit to Vegas twice. It was great both times. We paid extra for the fancy big chairs, and it still cost less than Southwest. Just measure your carryon beforehand. We got the same hot stewardess both times, and she recognized me about 6 months later.

it's going to be a long hard winter for a number of people.

i'm hoping things will slow down so i can finally finish all the projects i've had going for the past 8-ish years, and the rest of the world is looking for new projects!

I have one in my house. A previous owner told me he had it custom made. It is a heavy door, and I can't even figure out how it would come off. Looks like lots and lots of trim work.

Why is this a thing? Is it just the novelty of it? Because hidden rooms aren't really hidden unless the floorplan is confusing AF.

Just to be cool I guess. If I knew how, I would wire a door latch to a candle holder.

Ugh. Brand new tub/shower surround. Was holding it up while tapping it over with my palm and busted it.

your door really needs a section of trim-with the carpet rise, it would need to actually be a white-painted transition piece, at the bottom to complete the illusion. that gap is massive!

widget latches really aren't that hard. no different than a yard fence latch system.

i could do better than that video even. with some careful measuring and a long drill bit at the right angle, there's really no reason to have the cable come out of the bottom of the shelf, though a fake shelf bottom would make the job a lot easier...

could use compound pullies to lower the force and increase travel of the widget to open the door as well.

if i had a 'secret' door, i'd do a widget latch on it for nothing else but my own entertainment.

oops.

i did an after-drywall surround partly because my walls weren't straight enough for me to confidently fit a rough-in surround.

part of me is happy with it, the other part wishes i could have cut down on the requisite drywall...

i think the rough-in type offer a little better sealing qualities at least.

I've toyed around doing these, not as a hidden door, but as a replacement for bifold closet doors in our smaller bedrooms. It would be nice to have the book shelves in what is normally wasted space.

Something like this, they sell complete units or just the hinges so you can custom build your own:
