Fair enough, but as was said before, nobody here or in the video was expecting a BRZ to keep up/beat legit supercars.

My car is fun BECAUSE it's not stock. It's fun knowing that the hundreds of hours I put into the car continue to result in enjoyment. The car is fun stock. The car is fun with better brakes. The car is fun with new tires. The car is fun with 350whp.

Increased power to some people is no different than a set of wheels, or a widebody kit to others. Every modification has risks associated. If you understand the risks and welcome the outcome, who is to say that one variant of modification is any more "fun" than another? I certainly know that I appreciate any modifications people have done if it's something they enjoy

Wow, you are not fun at all. lol

They were having a blast. They said at the beginning they were going to get smoked by everyone, but that was apparently their shot at getting on the track to film. They probably didn't want to wait a month for the next shot, or mix it up with a bunch of newbs at an open event. They weren't racing anyone but the clock and each other, but they were pleasantly surprised at not getting completely blown out by the much more expensive and capable cars out at that particular event on that particular day.

FWIW, I don't think they're great drivers. I think even they admit it.

I'd expect all other drivers at the event to be a lot more competent, which remains the largest factor in a lap time.

Same can be said the other way around. There are people claiming they could follow a Porsche turbo and then you check the video to realize that the other driver wasn't competent at all. I believe that we should have some common sense about what a stock or even modified GT86/BRZ can do independently of driver experience. Trying to to chase or even catch high performance (super-) cars on a fast race track is quite an overstatement. At least with reasonable mods that will not risk considerably the lifetime of the motor and other components.

That just proved what MCM proved the 86 catches up in the corners but supercars pull away in the straight.

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of track etiquette.
It's a lapping event, not an actual race.

Otherwise that was fun to watch, Moog seems to be driving the car better than the first time even with more power. He was constantly over driving the car when he was out on his NA session.

In MCM's case, I think the car is held back by the driver. I still get a blast watching their videos, but great track drivers they don't seem to be (hey, I'm probably not better).

Their modded BRZ makes around 320hp at the crank and weighs in the 2800lbs range. This should make for a pretty quick track car, which can follow a Cayman or even a non-GT / Turbo 911 with relative ease, especially with these tyres.

Modded cars generally perform better than stock cars with similar weight & hp on a track, simply because they've typically got all the supporting mods that help go fast (tyres, brakes, suspension, etc.).

I think that's what makes it so fun. Its more like what I'd be doing in the car on a track, not some professional. Heck, they actually have enough track time to qualify for the experienced event, so, they're probably a lot better than me. They do a great job of capturing the fun an amateur can have with this car.

Reminds me of this old video of turbo gt86 vs mp4-12c, just not taken quite to the same extreme:

I think they said they got 220kw (or 295hp) at the wheels, so yes it should be around 320hp at the crank. This is the same output of an older Cayman S (981c) model. The BRZ has certainly a weight advantage, but the Cayman has a better weight distribution and bigger rear tires. In fact there were discussions in the past questioning if it is worth to supercharge or turbocharge a BRZ or buy a used Cayman S. Everyone on its own, but personally I would prefer the used Cayman S.

About the 911's I would bet that they are quicker on a fast race track, but it all depends also on the driver as posted above.

The video demonstrates what @nikitopo was saying, which I'll repost:

Quote:

I am admittedly a novice, and I can tell that the Porsche driver was not as good of a driver. Yes, the 86 is lighter, so it can brake later, but the Porsche seemed to brake way too early, and his lines could have improved, as he wasn't using all of the track consistently enough, nor was he setting himself up for the corners as well. The Porsche wasn't really rolling on the power as well either, as there was loss of traction several times. The corner speed differences could have been the weight and balance of the 86 being better than the 911, or the 911 could have been on all weather tires and the 86 was on slicks; we just don't know.

Let's be honest, we know a 911 turbo would destroy an 86. I have a bar of boost on E85, and even with that type of power, I wouldn't expect my car to beat a 911 given all else being equal. There is a certain point when the car matters sometimes more than the driver, and then as speed and traction increases, it becomes much more about the driver. This is when there is more than enough traction and power for the driver's abilities, where the driver is the bottleneck in performance. This is where the bigger difference is the driver's abilities and their knowledge of the track more than the difference in cars. This is essentially what the video shows.
