All the recent photos of the BMW prototypes have been of soft tops. And BMW going with only the soft top body style is being consistently reported in the auto media, e.g.:
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ork-first-time
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-sho...ew-coupes-too/
etc.

Looks like the four cylinder will not be unique to the Toyota, it is reported to be in a variant of the upcoming Z4.

no press release or official statements from spokespeople from either automaker, but looking at the prototypes it does seem like: roadster = BMW and coupe = Toyota.

Baseless speculation, BMW is going to test every chassis they build, regardless of who's badge goes on it, just like Subaru did.

Fan-fiction.

the BMW will most definitely have a 4 banger. wishful thinking, but i hope Toyota's versions comes with 6 cylinders only.

Eh, 340i with the B58 starts at just under $50k, it's not a death sentence for affordability.

I did not noticed this, but members on our sister forum pointed out that it appears that a Japanese driver is testing the mule. Maybe Akio?
