Slow Canadian 2JZ BRZ build!
Hey guys, quick intro about me.
I bought my BRZ brand new back in 2014. I started off by wanting a good looking car, new and with warranty as a daily. I had come from a couple R32 GTR's and S Chassis (Still a huge Nissan fan boy and always will be). In between the first 2-3 years the car made little progress on to whether or not I wanted to keep it so it was kept in the garage as I bought other S chassis haha! Anyways I'm making this thread to document this life mistake haha. Here's my Instagram for some pictures as I feel like I will be very lazy to upload pictures or update this thread. This is likely to just be a little online note pad for everyone to see and myself to regret later. IG: @goob.y 2014-2016 Exterior - Authentic Rocket Bunny Version 2 Kit - Rocket Bunny optional DRL kit - Titanium bolts/washers and stainless steel riv nuts kept the kit on - Authentic Rocket Bunny version 1 GT wing - OEM 2015 Subaru BRZ shark fin antenna - TOM's "JDM" spec tail lights. I think this didn't have the side reflectors? - OEM TRD front fender fins - Craft Square side mirrors with TiBurnt hardware Interior - Works Bell steering wheel hub - Personal 350MM Suede with red stitch steering wheel - OEM Toyota black interior trims (Shifter bezel, traction switch, door handles, etc) - OEM Toyta leather with red stitch knee pads on both sides - Bride Zeta 3, Vios 3 Low Max (2015) - Recaro SPG both driver and passenger (2016) - Buddy club super low seat rails Wheels/Suspension - Stance Super Sport coilovers 6k/6k - Stance V1 rear lower control arms - Megan Racing rear trailing arms - 2012 STI front brembos - Work Meister S1 3PC with Matte Bronze face (MHG), anodize bronze lips, matte black inner barrel, gold hardware. Fronts 18x11+10 A Disk with 265/35R18 Rear 18x11.5-1 O Disk with 285/35R18 Engine - Tomei 80R - Tomei Ti front pipe - LegSport intake duct - At this point I haven't decided if I wanted to put on a turbo kit, possibly build the FA or go with an engine swap. I thought about selling the car at this point more than wanting to build it. I'm a tech at Infiniti and all I have kept up with is maintenance and fluids every time year I did drive it. Fast forward to 2017 Spring/Summer. I have switched up the exterior for a complete authentic Varis wide body with the optional carbon pieces and a Voltex 1800MM Type 7 Swan wing and as well as an Aimgain duck bill rear trunk wing. I had sold my previous Rocket Bunny kit and Meisters. I'm now rolling on 18x10.5 +15 square Rays Volk TE37SL in double pressed black and wrapped with 265/35R18 Advan AD08R square. I have also switched the Recaro SPG's for Recaro TSG's in black. Sold the STI Brembos and got Project Mu NC800 (I think it was) front and rear pads. After some serious thought, I figure I'll give it a swing and swap a 2JZ in it. It's always been in the back of my head since I first heard about it. Now 2017 October I have committed to making this project real. A very good friend of mine has a completely built 3.1 2JZ and it revs like a Honda (9300RPM!!) that he was willing to sell at a fraction of what he spent since it hasn't really been used since finished. (1500KM maybe on the set up?) I wish I had the complete parts list but I'll write down what I remember and what he remembers before digging up receipts and such. 3.1 2JZ VVT-I Head - Custom high lift cams up to 9500 RPM - Supertech valves - BC Springs - BC titanium retainers - Five angle port and polish to match intake manifold and turbo manifold - Supertech valve guides - Supertech valve seals - Titan adjustable cam gear - Solid lifter conversion Block - CP high compression pistons 9.0:1 - Manley H beams - Manley Rods - 625 aged caps - Polished and knife edged crankshaft - rehoned cylinders (stock size to rev higher) - MVP motrsports main cap griddle - Clevite, main, rod, and thrust bearings - ARP aged main studs - ARP aged headstuds - Front sump oil pan with modified oil pick up - OEM Toyota seals all around - OEM timing belt - ATI Damper Accesories - Powerhouse racing lightweight 4PC pulley kit. - Power house Racing 12AN breather kit - High output 260A alternator - Power house racing ported oil pump - OEM water pump - Power house racing modified water neck - Modified valve covers - LS coil pack coversion - Flex-A-Lite Electric pull type dual fan kit - AEM meth kit Cold Side - Titan Motorsports intake manifold - Fuel injector clinic fuel rail - Injector Dynamic 2000CC injectors - Ported throttle body to match 102mm Manifold - Ported lower runners to match head (intake side) - ETS 4.5" Intercooler Hot Side - Borg Warner EFR 9180 - Ceramic coated exhaust housing - DOC Race custom 38mm tubing twin scroll manifold with high temp black coating (FullRace only makes 50MM/25MM which was too small or too big for this size turbo) - Tial MVR 44MM Wastegate x2 - Wastegate down pipes custom to clear motor - Turbo smart designed for EFR (50% of blow off air recirculated back to turbo to keep spinning between shifts) - Power house racing turbo blanket - Heat wrapped everything - Full AN lines everything - Turbo drain kit Management - Haltech Elite - Haltec long flying loom - Racepak IQ3 cluster - Electronic boost solenoid - 4Bar GM MAP sensor Transmission - R154 rebuilt with Marlin Crawler parts - RPS Billet twin plate carbon clutch - New OEM Toyota 2JZ bell housing Pretty much what my friend remembered. 2016 was the first year of seven years this car was finally complete and finished in terms of having a motor set up. It came out of his S14 and I believe its been through 3 or 4 motor set ups including this one. We had a baseline tune on the car last year and I believe it made 600 whp, 560 ft lb of torque at 12 PSI on pump 94 gas and not tuned with vvti and up to 7000 RPM. It made 400 ft lb of torque at 3800~4000 RPM. and the 560 ft lb (full boost) at 4500 RPM. It makes crazy low end torque for sure. I'm looking to hit close to the same on low boost with vvti and the full 9300. Maybe around 600-650 whp and 600 ft lbs would be sweet and a high boost setting for fun! Now December of 2017 and sort of a to do list Sold my TE37SL and ordered a BNIB set of 18x10.5+15 OG TE37's in the OG bronze!!! Had to make the switch and take a hit on the money but I think it'll be worth it. I also ordered a set of TE37's for my 17 4Runner TRD Off Road because I think that'd be a pretty bad ass set up once its lifted and all for a daily. Now lets get to the to do list... - I still have to figure out a rear end to use on this build and a more cost effective way (hopefully). I'm hearing some guys run stock pumpkins with hardware on the internals and they are running high HP turbo LS. I might give that a go and run 1000HP DSS Axles and drive shaft. - Fuel system, I'm leaning towards a fuel cell with the trunk floor cut out and tucked in there. Bonus and a lot of it is to have my fuel cap door molded into the Varis quarter so its flush. - Full FIA approved roll cage (weld in), A Pillar back with door bars. - Varis Kamikaze pieces, mostly everything in the front end. I find the rear end rather ugly haha - MPH Carbon roof - Possibly MPH rear carbon trunk as it really proved to be a strong ass trunk compared to OEM or anything else in the market - Paint. A full respray and I have decided a color already. - Varis Ver1 vented CF hood - New suspension all around, arms, coilovers, etc - Custom exhaust for the JZ. 3.5" all the way through probably to an Apexi N1 Muffler - Brembo GT BBK - Recaro TSG/RSG ASM Edition - Lots of M6 ASM hardware for misc parts of the kit (Last thing since its $30 per bolt/washer ) This is a huge list and a huge chunk of change to burn for this kind of car. I'm really looking to finish this and actually get it out to the track as that has been the plan for this car prior to the Varis and JZ. This is a long term build and I'm sorry if I can't always update it with new parts and progress as I work Monday to Saturday. Plus being a mechanic I really hate to do this kind of crap on my off time. It really killed the hobby haha! Anyways. I wil try and post photo up here of how it looked before and how its going now. A lot of photos now are on my instagram (@goob.y) if any of you guys want to take a look at this piece of junk I'm hyping up for myself. If you read this far, hopefully it means you have some faith in me completing this project and not parting it out and selling it in the future LOL. |

Being absolutely useless when it comes to all things under the hood, I'm truly jealous of you mechanics that are able to work on your cars and save so much money in the process. Not to mention you probably can source things you need fairly easily, like that built 2jz. Followed you on IG. Good luck!

I will get to it as soon as I can! I tried uploading them on my phone earlier but they all seem to be to big and the site didn't want to re-size them. I'm the absolute worst at trying to keep these "build" threads alive. I used to have one for my old R32 GTR on GTRCanada but that didn't last more than the day I posted it . I will upload some photos soon!
