TRD Performance Air Intake-Worth it?

I tried searching, but my search skills are not that great. I'm getting a new 2015 FR-S and understand the TRD intake is added by the dealer. Is there any benefit of power or MPG over the standard intake? Once the warranty is over, are there better DIY options for improved power and/or MPG. I'm trying to decide if it's worth having the TRD intake included in the original purchase. I did find a reference to the TRD intake in the Photos forum and posed this question there with no answers so far. Thanks.

No. It's not.

Unless you have to have an oem part. You can easily spend $50 on a drop in filter and get the same gains. No need to spend $450

Thanks for the thread, that is what I was searching for. The only one I found was the one I posted in on the picture forum.

There was a lot of good information and opinions there, but looking at some of the ebay sellers, their listing don't include the 2015 model as compatible. Is there a difference between the 2015 and earlier models?

Not as far as that part goes.

I wouldn't bother unless you can get it for considerably cheaper than MSRP. The OEM airbox is really well designed...most of the restriction in the stock intake system actually comes from the tube connecting the airbox to the throttle body. I'm not sure if the TRD intake replaces that tube or not.

And yes, I do have an intake, but I was able to get a pretty significant discount on it. I have no delusions that it does little for performance, but to me the sound was worth the price over the stock intake system (in which I installed a K&N filter before moving to the Perrin intake).

Im happy with the AFE dry drop in. Washable and great quality. You can get one for less than 50 bucks.

I have the TRD intake.

As for performance? Nothing noticeable.

I like it because it got rid of the damn sound tube and free'd up some space in the engine bay

I bought mine from a Toyota dealer selling them on ebay for $365 and installed it myself.
Piece of cake.
