Do you know where the Wal-marts in Idaho get their "turkeys"?

Well, at least they had part of the name of that thing you bought correct -

My temp I have currently is an older ex-con who used to do a lot of drugs. He is a really nice guy and seems pretty reformed. His mannerisms and movements remind me of the giant alien cockroach from the first MIB movie when he is wearing the "human suit." Now I can't stop laughing at him when I see him doing something.

The only thing about this was operating a 1,000+ HP car with a known sticky throttle. That thing would be an absolute beast to handle when everything is perfect. He clearly states that he knows the throttle sticks and even has developed a "procedure" to release it when it does. Who spends all that time and money to build such a beautiful car (it really is) and then just drives around with a know major issue?
The brakes ability is only a hindsight thing. They would have been more than adequate for his stated intentions of just cruising with the car if the throttle was working properly. If he upgraded to a dual reservoir master that is. I don't understand how, even considering the throttle, he managed to lose both front and rear at once like that. I get that he could overheat and blow a line or something but how did he lose both at once? There should have been at least enough to slow him down before losing both systems.

He was driving a 4,000 pound car with a center of gravity probably around 4 feet. Cranking it and doing a donut would have been a bad bad idea. He would have just ended up flipping it and still hitting the cars in front. At best he could hope to just T-bone somebody. Either way the results would have been worse than they were.

Killing the engine would have had zero effect in that situation. The video and editing makes it seem like he had loads of time to react. He didn't! From realization to impact was about 7 seconds and he used 2 of them trying to pump the brakes. Shutting the engine off would have done absolutely nothing and there is a large probability that he would have lost steering. As they said there was a gap in the left lane that he was headed for but a car closed it so he had no place to go. Even with the engine off he would have needed a far, far, FAR longer runout than he had to slow and stop. If you listen closely just before they hit he tries to throw the tranny into park but it was having none of it due to the speed. There was not thing he could have done in that particular situation that would have avoided that outcome. He did manage to avoid worse possible results though since he could have T-boned, rolled or gone into oncoming traffic and had a head on.

Having owned nothing but old cars (many in rough shape when I first got them) until I was well into my 30s I have had three major brake failure incidents. Well, plus one in an army truck. We are not talking about over heating fade or something that happens gradually and you know things are not right but perfectly fine brakes one push and the pedal drops to the floor and there is NOTHING the next. This was a far more common situation with cars made before the late 60s than anybody that has driven nothing but dual reservoir system cars would ever believe. No doubt that @humfrz can support me on this! I was just lucky in that in each of my incidents there was an opening I could get through and run out to a stop. I have actually told the story of one incident on here before.
I hit a big German Shepard on the highway with my 64 Impala one day. He rolled under the car and a quick look didn't show any damage. What I didn't know was that he had caused a very small split it one of my brake lines. Over the next day I lost all my brake fluid in such small amounts that I didn't notice. My girlfriend and I were going down the road at about 30MPH and I came up to a stop light. Touched the brakes and the pedal just dropped to the floor. There was nothing at all. The e brake was seized solid (they usually were here) so that was not an option. Luckily the traffic ahead pulled forward just in time and I took the corner at full speed. There is nothing quite like having a 64 Impala screaming around a corner on two wheels, I'll tell you that. I shut the engine off and coasted in gear for almost 3 blocks before I could shift into park and stop. I will never forget that noise! The funny part is that my girlfriend (my wife now) said that I was so calm when I said "we have no brakes" that she thought I was joking until we went for the wild ride.

So, all in all, as easy as it is to sit and watch a video and say "Oh they should have done this that or the other thing" the reality of the situation is very different when you are in the middle of it.

Even growing up in the rust belt, I have never operated a vehicle without working emergency/parking brake. I was taught to repair, maintain, and use them. That's how it should be. The prevalence of inoperative ones is no excuse to willingly join that club.

Stuck throttle? Fuuuuck me. Enough said.

Smelling hot brakes? In traffic? Get off of the damn road!

It's easy to point fingers here because it's all true. No hypocrisy coming from me.
