But I'll get a MT PP BRZ next year anyway.
North Texas - 100 stop signs a day - riiiiiiightttttt -

I commute to work through one of the oldest, richest neighborhoods in town (from where I live, which is NOT). There's a stop sign on every corner for four miles. I drive to work, then home for lunch, back to work, then home; so that's four trips through stop-sign hell every weekday. It gets really old, but like I was telling my buddy the other day, if I'd had a stick for these last two years, my technique would be impeccable by now.

If you're good at driving manuals, it becomes automatic.

Haha that was exactly my thought. I'm just glad 1/3 of buyers are choosing manual. Don't really care what people drive, but selfishly its good to see a significant percentage of buyers choosing manual so manufacturers keep making them.

Something interesting I read somewhere, BMW only offered MT M5 as an option in America. All other countries only one flavour, AT.. go figure...

I remember watching that old Will Smith movie iRobot (if I recall correctly) and there is a scene where he puts his car into manual mode and then has cops chasing him because it’s illegal to drive your own car. This was an eye opener for me. When this movie came out I didn’t expect autonomous cars for another 40years but knew deep down that when they arrived it would be illegal to drive myself anymore. I know they seem right around the corner but I firmly believe they will emerge, cause several fatalities (although statistically safer) and then politicians will (irrationally) kill them off. So hopefully my right to drive stays for at least another 50 years.

Here’s a funny story from a few weeks ago. A few of us from work went to lunch together in my coworkers Tesla S and someone asked him if he could demonstrate autopilot for us. He was very reluctant to demonstrate but did. It drove for about a 1/4 mile before violently swerving towards a curb because the painted centerline went away. Like most Tesla drivers they are obsessed with Tesla and think they do no wrong so I think his reluctance to demonstrate was to save his lord and savior Elon from embarrassment. As a software dev I have a hard time trusting a human to drive a car let alone a human programmed computer to drive a car.

I saw some stats ages ago for 86/BRZ sales in Australia that showed the majority of earlier sales were MT, around 70%. Found an article from 2016 that shows it came in around 50/50. I wouldn't mind betting that now it is mostly AT.

I drove an AT when I was looking for mine (ended up buying MT) and I can certainly see the attraction in the AT - it is a good transmission.

My BMW X1 has a passive lane keep assist (it just vibrates the steering wheel when I touch the lines). It does NOT work half the time (dash light indicates it functioning if its green, red if its not....its red a lot of the times) and definitely doesn't work in winter with the slushy ground (and when it does, it vibrates randomly at times because there's no lines to detect....so its guessing the road mounds as lines)

so yeah I don't trust automated systems.
Just like I don't care for electrics/hybrids right now. I don't care if they're fast as hell, they're too expensive and they are actually kind of boring to drive. (My X1 is quite tight around turns with nice heavy steering, but its automatic and I don't really get any urge to play with the paddles. My Scion IM on the other hand is has much lighter steering, but its accurate and I do feel a bit more roll but its got a manual trans which I find more fun to drive)
