pfft??

3rd for only a few seconds? 3rd is all about the mega ultimax speed breaker merge then 4th is all about destroying all of the competition on the 401.

Coasting 5k rpm in 3rd on on-ramp ready to play, then still ablaze upshifting to 4th all the way to 7.3k rpm.

Ok cool Just got a little confused I guess. I am no engineer and I do not cruise that fast but I do think it's fine, I would imagine if anything your fuel consumption will be pretty high is all.

God damn it. Did not mean to misconstrue. I was, as you now know, more referring to them being in production vehicles.

Sometimes I talk how I think as if people should understand haha. MY BAD.

And it's A.D.D.

Thanks.

That is my point all along but everybody seems to want to look at it as if the engine always runs at a fixed speed, doesn't change it's lubrication and cooling when the RPMs change and there are zero other variables that come into effect. The theory is sound but the practice is different. Any "extra" wear caused by cruising at marginally higher RPMs than the normal cruising rate of 3,000 to 3,500 is so small that it is lost in the noise of all the other driving variables and as such can be considered nonexistent as far as driving habits go. Cruising at 2,000 rpms is not going to add any perceivable life to the vehicle.
We got so caught up in the wording of things that my real message sort of got lost along the way.

Troll Post warning

If I were to have a friend drive my car for the day restricted to 50mph. Id rather he/she do that 50 mph in 5th gear instead of 3rd.

At this point your asking what I have to contribute to this thread, the answer is nothing. I don't science as well as you guys do. Carry on.

So would I but not because I was worried they are going to wear my engine out faster but simply because it is a better place to be. I wouldn't want to see my nice 32mpg average destroyed more than anything.

Reading is a strong tool into learning about science while not being in a field that directly relates to any of the subject matter at hand.

I was going to consider getting into a 2017/2018 instead of keeping my 2014, but honestly those high revs would be annoying and more costly. It's not worth the marginally better off-the-line performance.

Buys a sports car. Worries about cruising at 2,000 rpm to reduce unnecessary wear.

I am actually not all that fond of my MPG since it is a true indicator of how rarely I get to play.
