Splitter or Lip?
I'm looking to get either a front lip or splitter for my 2019 86. I am currently lowered about an inch on the TRD lowering springs and I just want something kind of subtle to add to my front profile.
as of right now i'm stuck between three: this front lip https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/car...l#.XuPRai05QWp this splitter with support rods https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/flo...l#.XuPRXy05QWo and this splitter without support rods https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/flo...l#.XuPRWi05QWo is it weird to have a splitter without support rods? I don't intend on going to the track, only really using this car for daily driving so these will be purely cosmetic to me. What are your thoughts? |

The CF front lip is beautiful and flows with the front bumper lines and is a nice piece to show off if you are just daily driving. I would recommend this one.
IMO, if there is no track-time involved, splitters aren't worth the money. They look agressive, yet raw. I'm sure you'd like a refined look with a DD car so I'd say go with the front lip. Just remember having CF that low to the ground will eventually give way to rock chips, etc. |

I was thinking like you, but after some advice I went with a cheap lip and literally plastic dipped it matte black. Best thing ever. Does not look nearly as good As the CF ones or even the STI one, but after 50k miles on highways it was literally covered with rock chips. I just repaint the dip every summer. I have thought about a wrap or paint or even getting a better lip, but it will just be obliterated over time. So cheap and easy it is.

Typical splitter sticks out 2-3 inches. I am only lowered 1.25" and I scrape it all the time. For something that doesn't see track time just get a lip and call it a day.

The support rods may require removing the front bumper cover and possibly drilling some holes. Just check the instructions. If that matters to you then it makes the choice that much easier.

If it’s a daily don’t use anything. Lowered and you’ll tear it off in a week. You’ll cringe every time you need to use a parking lot with a steep approach. Agonizing to hear that terrible noise of the lip/splitter being shredded.
