Lets say we were talking about this car, and had a brief pause and I then said to you.

not in a written conversation, but a verbal one

"Tell me if you want it"

I'm leaving the "?" and or "." off here for a reason.

Would it be considered a statement or an inquiry?

I'm having a discussion and need some sound opinions.

Now if we have any english or engrish majors here please feel free to chime in.

Statement, it doesn't sound right to start an inquiry with 'tell'.

Hell it almost borders on a command.

of course its a command, I am demanding an answer, not asking for an answer, that is what the question is.

But what I am getting at is, there are 2 possible responses to this, and that both are factual based on the individual responding.

And therefore does it not make an inquiry into if one sees themself attaining or desiring to attain said item?

It seems the typical english practiced on forums is grade school at best! Some of it probably is due to the fact that ppl type quickly, and really don't care if they have spelled or punctuated everything correctly... just that they have gotten their point across.

As far as cell phone texters... there probably needs to be an entirely new language named for that!
