Rattling when decelerating

Hey guys sorry to add another FRS noise thread but I’ve searched and read pages of threads with no luck.

2013 FRS 6 speed M/T
Car is 100% stock

I’ve noticed that when I decelerate usually in 5th gear but also any gear, there is a rattle/buzz/vibration coming from the engine/trans. If I let off the gas quickly its louder but if I let off the gas gently the sound is reduced. It’s almost like something connected to the drivetrain moves back and forth until its rested. I do feel it in the shifter.

It was much louder when I had rear diff bushings/shifter bushings so I removed them. If I clutch in while it’s buzzing it goes away.

Any help or lead is appreciated!

Mine does it in every gear but I have a light flywheel and TRD bushes everywhere. So your car is totally stock except for the bushes you had? No light weight drive shaft, no light weight clutch or flywheel, no exhaust etc

Thanks for the info!

Car is 100% stock. Previous owner changed the clutch and resurfaced the flywheel 25k miles ago according to the receipts

If you push the shifter over while it is buzzing does it go away?

I did try that And it seemed to help a bit. It’s almost like it rattles until whatever it is rests and it stops. I’ll try to get a recording

Update: noise is apparent when at a dead stop of moving but sounds different when at a stop. Same rattle goes away when I clutch in.. clutch and throw out bearing were supposed to be replaced 15k miles ago

I'd suggest you check the heat shields and under panels and make sure they are bolted down tight.

Any idea what clutch/TOB they put in it?

I agree since work has been done in recent history.

Thanks for the input guys, I checked all the under panels and can’t find anything loose.

Previous owner out in an Action Clutch.. I wouldn’t even put those in my old Honda lol

Here is a video in 5th gear, noise is heard when the gas pedal is released then eventually it “settles” down. If I release the gas pedal softly the noise is reduced

Video:

In the video I accelerated in 5th, let off the throttle, accelerated and let off again

That sounds like a nasty drivetrain vibration. On decel if you rest your foot on the clutch pedal lightly and give it just a slight amount of pressure, can you feel it pulsate through the pedal? I wonder if the pressure plate is misaligned, or there is some other issue with the clutch. Doesn't sound like a TOB. As a quick "just to be sure" make sure motor mounts and transmission mounts are tight. I don't think that is the issue but it would be good to rule those things out. I'd get the car up on 4 jack stands and run it with a buddy outside to see if you can isolate the noise. If you can't isolate it I would say clutch needs checked out. @Ultramaroon what do you think?

Are you sure your car doesn't support a "rattles and bangs when decelerating" tune? It's an alternative to "pops and bangs"..

I appreciate the helpful insights! I'll check the mounts cause its weird it feels like something is moving and will make noise depending on how hard i let go of the gas pedal.

The odd thing is if I clutch in, the sound/vibration is gone.
