So cool to see that machine take on a whole new life. Ohlins? You aren't messing around.

Small update:

Trial by fire for the car, day after alignment took it straight to Grand Bend to run a few sessions. Ended up cutting the night short to race home (pun intended) and go to the drive-in movies.

The Gloc R12/R6 combo with the wider 17x9 wheels and RS4 were excellent. Super communicative, even while being scrubbed in. The Ohlins were set to the factory suggested 7 clicks from full soft, and I must say for normal street use they were a bit firm and for the track they were a bit soft. Going to try 4 clicks street and 9 clicks for the track. Obviously those are just starting numbers and can be adjusted somewhat easily for the use case. On the street the RS4 are quite loud no surprise there, 200tw life. Also not as unbearable like the TRD catback with RE71 ripping down the 401 to TMP... talk about noise!

I did data log the second session, but haven't reviewed the logs or even looked at my times yet. I could tell there was a lot more speed being maintained in the second half of the track due to not rolling over on the tires.

Overall, quite pleased with how the car performed. I do need to address the idle as Perrin calls for in their installation instructions, as the idle NVH is quite aggressive especially if you're trying to talk to someone.

LOL It isn't coincidence he ended up with the car. One of the very first things he said when he looked at it was that he planned to use nothing but the best parts to track prep it. That was when I knew he would get it. He has certainly lived up to that comment.

When I installed my Perrin engine mounts, they worked the front pipe bolt loose, had it rattling and knocking all over the place, especially at idle, which was 90% of the NVH. After tightening that, the NVH is very minimal, even at idle, unless 1. I have the A/C on, 2. it's cold outside. 3. it's a cold start in general and the car is still warming up (better 5-10 mins into the drive). Otherwise a bit of clink-clank-clunk below 800rpm is normal with these

Sounds about right. Going to get under the car today to check over everything. It's been about 200 km since the engine mounts were put on, so they need a retorque. To fix the tune, I have a v1 OFT that I plan on using to modify the stock tune to just raise the idle.

Are those Perrins hard mounts? I waited for my local friends to go through some failed experiments with replacement mounts before going with the STi units. IMO they're the sweet spot.

Maybe it was a typing error on your part, but the Ohlins come from the factory at 7 "Clicks" but not from full soft, it's always from full hard. 0 reference is the last "feelable" click at full clockwise and then you go softer with each click. Like other coilovers you can go beyond the 20 positions but after 20 they don't really do anything. I find 10 clicks from full hard a very comfortable highway/winding road setting but for city roads and pot holes it can become a little busy. 15 clicks it's a bit too floaty for smooth roads but excellent around town. I would love an EDFC style setup for these dampers!

that's exactly when the bolt went loose, about 200 km in. I had the mechanic check the mounts as well (twice!) and they were tight. But man, I just love the racket you get full WOT 5000-7400 rpm with the mounts. It almost sounds like the car has ITBs haha. Definitely will ask my future tuner to raise the idle

They're the revised Perrin motor mounts, not sure if there are two different styles. If there are, these still have a poly bushing in them and are not 100% metal. The STI mounts are on the radar as well. My plan for this summer is to go down to the States for two weeks. After driving yesterday my current thought process is to revert to stock mounts for the trip and then put the Perrin back in and see how I feel about them then. That said, I quite liked how much they firmed up the engine on track. This may be placebo, full disclosure I haven't gotten to drive the car much since putting it away last fall.

Ah, I had them backwards then! Will definitely be fixing that today, thanks for pointing that out!

They did sound awesome on the track and on the road while driving, but in London stop-go traffic they were quite chattery.
