Im fairly sure that the white screen isnt something that can be fixed. I temporarily (not sure how) got mine to come on and function for a few days, but then suddenly the white screen came back. Nothing at all troubleshooting-wise ever worked.

Id just warranty claim it and be done. I got my replacement unit and it works absolutely perfect now. Best part is, half the setup is done, so when i got my new unit, it was literally a plug and play

Best of luck to ya!
I bought the unit off of ebay several months ago. I don't even remember who I bought it from so I doubt that returning it is an option at this point. If it is trashed so be it but I was hoping it was just a software problem that could be worked out.

the exchange only took a few days. the difficult part was dealing with their customer support that mostly communicates in broken english. they didnt seem to object much when i told them i wanted a replacement instead of a refund lol.

even if its been a few months, its worth a shot. I think its supposed to have a 1 year replacement

Well I hate to give up on it but nothing I try seems to make any difference so I will have to see if I can exchange it. Meanwhile I think I am going to order a TUN21A. With it already rooted I should be able to use Titanium Backup on it for some peace of mind and I would like to have the capacitive touch screen.

Big thanks to 2forme

After watching your video/ reading all the other reviews I ordered the head unit.

Used your instructions for the Root/install and Torque works great.

went with
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190851031680...84.m1497.l2649

No issue with the radio reception or any of the usb ports that a few of you have run into.

Thanks man

For the benefit of others, a quick couple of notes from installing my T7019a headunit
  • Even though the unit is a 'universal Toyota' head unit and the mounting bracket fits the hole pattern, it isn't correct for the 86. (it is rotated and too far forward). I spent hours trying to resolve this by drilling extra holes in the mounting plate, but in the end it was simplest just to use only the bottom rear screw hole on each side (so only being held in with two screws). Despite this, the facia manages to hold the unit snug in place and it doesn't move.
  • The default head units installed for NZ 86's seems to be the same as the one that comes in the Corollas here. When I took it out, there was a huge ball of additional wiring between the car and the head unit. I simply removed this extra loom - hopefully it wasn't important.
  • I managed to install the GPS antenna on top of one of the air cond. ducts. It is important to give the curved part of the antenna as much view of clear sky as possible, so mount as far forward as you can. Don't mount it on its side, or upside down! The antenna seems to do a really good job of tracking satellites.
  • Comparing the GPS speed with the dash shows quite a large discrepancy (dash is as much as 10% higher). Still need to figure out which is right, but I'm actually inclined to believe the GPS more.
  • I didn't hook up the blue wire from the antenna adapter to anything (supposed to be power to antenna amp). Seems fine without so far, but then again I'm only a couple of km away from the broadcast tower.
  • There are a couple of plugs (from memory, one on the car's loom, and one on the Toyota adapter loom) that don't end up being connected.
  • I quickly rooted the device as per the instructions at the start of this thread. However, I noticed an option to change the LED settings/colours before the process, and it seems to have disappeared after rooting. (From memory, the options were 'Mono', 'Color 1' and 'Color 2')
  • Despite the specifications my unit came with a HSDPA modem - still no luck getting it working though. @nzer - if you happen to be on 2degrees, what APN settings are you using?
  • The right hand MicroSDHC slot was covered over (sounds like it may not have been in earlier units) - so didn't lose any cards into the unit during the install process.
  • The /cache partition on the unit seems quite small (<50MB) - this may be the reason larger apps like Angry Birds Star Wars can't install.
  • I've located the start up logos on the device. They have the extension .png.logo, however they are not .png files. Instead they are a proprietary palette-based format. I've managed decode them, and even managed to create a custom 86 startup logo.
  • IMHO the default brightness is too high. It looks a lot better (less backlight bleedthrough), if you turn the brightness down a couple of notches.

Good list.

My unit fitted perfectly. There's a couple of little plastic nipple bits on the bottom that need to slot into the metal bracket at the bottom. If you don't have those in properly it sticks out. Also, make sure you're using the correct screw holes for the mounting brackets. Perfect fit here.

I was using Vodafone so can't help with 2degrees setup. I've removed my 3G card now as data is expensive over cell and just using personal hotspot over wifi to my iPhone or when in garage I can hook into my home wifi.

Your comment on the Corolla is likely right as my old 86 unit fits perfectly in my Highlander too so is a universal Toyota thing. As mentioned mine fits perfectly.

Attached is a 86 logo that can be used as the start-up logo for the T7019a head unit. It may also work on other devices,

To install (or at least how I managed to get it to work):
  • Extract the toyota86.png.logo file from the attached .zip (do not use the attached .png file, it is here simply so it can be previewed)
  • Copy the .png.logo file to the root of a USB stick
  • Insert USB stick into head unit
  • Open up the secret 'General' settings (password is '123456')
  • The logo on the USB card should be available to be selected.

I don't think you need root to perform the instructions above.

Once you have selected a new logo, the USB stick does not appear to be needed anymore.

If later, you go back into the Logo selection screen, the new logo won't be shown so you may lose your custom image if if you switch back to another logo. You can make the new logo one of the permanent selection, by adding it to the /system/etc/logos directory (root required, with /system mounted with r/w access to be able to copy)

You sound like you know way more about android stuff than I do.

Do you know how to solve the insufficient memory error when trying to install TomTom maps?

And, are you able to see if you can install RaceChrono. Doesn't show on play store and when I goole it and say n stall using the play store it seems to work but then says something like "app not installed" or similar.

Now that I've got my head unit in, and slowly getting it 'just-right', I'll see if I can experiment a bit with TomTom & RaceChrono.

RaceChrono does seem a bit odd because it lists 'varies per device' for the required Android version.

How to restore this color feature on rooted unit?

Mine too, I buy a Huawei (E1750) to run with Vodafone Italy. The enclosed key didn't recognize 3G Voda Network in Italy, now it's OK.

Right now, no idea. Just mentioning it in case someone else tries to root their unit. They may want to play with this setting first before rooting.
