On the GR86 subreddit they discussed their wait times (primarily Americans) and I guess they only have weeks/few month wait times I wonder if instead of waiting a year how difficult and expensive buying in the US and importing would be

I doubt it will be cheaper with current exchange rate.

Don’t forget you probably have to pay ADM.

The other issue is when it is time to sell an American car in Canada, you will lose money also.

There are several fees/taxes/duty charges involved in buying in the US. Also a pile of red tape so it isn't as simple as declaring a bottle of whisky at the border.
Add in the exchange rate and you would end up with a $60,000 CDN car really fast.

There are guys in the US that have waited a year as well. It isn't just a Canadian thing.

Adding another data point of my journey here, just got confirmation of my allocation and should be here in April.

- "Ordered" a 2022 Track bRed 6MT Premium April 2022 at a 'smaller' ON dealership. Original guesstimate was 6-9 months, and they were supposed to get some allocations for 2022 (as per HQ).

- 2022 allocation never ended up realizing -- followed up / chased HQ, final result is a 2023 Neptune Blue 6MT Premium instead.

All in all, what a ride.

I'm pleased to be able to update my profile info having taken delivery of my 10th Anniversary SE last night. I originally ordered a Track bRed Premium MT and thanks to the info posted by @Rustyoid I contacted my dealership and swapped to the SE. In total my wait time was 545 days, having ordered in September 2021.

Any sign of Canadian dealers starts selling WRX/BRZ/GR86 under MSRP?

I see some US folks getting $3k - $4k off WRX and $500 off on BRZ/GR86.

Subaru is having a little trouble moving the new WRX. (Probably 'cause it's pretty awful/dull looking...) They sold 8,479 less of the new model in 2022 vs the previous gen in 2021. If you to the "Build" section of subaru.ca you'll see that every 2023 model has the "limited stock" warning on it, except the WRX.

Hopefully @Rustyoid has a new update soon. Last month about this time he posted a whole bunch of new allocations for March & April. Fingers crossed my dealer is on the next update.

He checks everyday, but the allocation updates are usually near the 20th for each month from what I've seen pattern wise.

But I could be wrong, I've still been checking to see just in case
Came across a dealer post, one landed in Port Alberni Toyota on Vancouver Island, BC
I also figured out what happened to a couple others that were "missed". At least 2 were put aside to be on display at Canadian auto shows.
Sadly now most of those shows have been canceled.... Again.

One of them was on display at the Toronto Auto Show, here's a picture of it and its VIN. I feel sorry for whoever gets this one, unless they were explicitly informed it would be on display first. I crosschecked this one's VIN with my own to make sure it wasn't mine...
