This is the case with Bespoke too. I found that mine was set to TC instead of FR-S. I noticed a big difference in the audio after changing it to the correct setting.

Just browsing around the forums and as soon as I found this thread, I quickly checked out mine and it was on tC.

After changing it to the FR-S, the audio actually sounds a lot better in terms of mid range and an overall improvement than before.

I'm surprised that the base Pioneer HU didn't have an FR-S setting since it has everything else including the iQ.
Which nav unit is in the gt86?

How do you change the opening?

I can hear the differences between settings, but does anyone know if this is a simple matter of equalizer settings, or does it actually change speaker output?

tC sounds more exaggerated (louder bass, piercing trebles) while FR-S seems much more "accurate", if that's a good way to describe it.

Is this a matter of personal preference, or is it actually a matter of correct vs incorrect output?

The different car types might be for the different speaker configurations. I'm thinking it changes the crossover frequency to the door speakers etc.

Mine too, was set to TC so I changed it to FR-S and the music sounds different.

The best part is, NO MORE DOOR RATTLE! At least not yet knock on wood. lol

Thanks OP!

Update: Okay, so most of the door rattle is gone. lol Some songs at higher volume still vibrates the door panel. Still better than it was however.

Thank you so, so much for this post. Wow - the difference between tC and FRS settings was unbelievable. I wanted to switch head units/add speakers because I thought the sound system was unusally crappy even for a stock system. Now, I can live with this setup for a bit longer...

Below the option for "Car Type", there's one for "Opening". Mine said "Scion" (as I'm sure most of you had), but I changed it to saying "Hello James!" when it starts. Keep in mind it will only say it upon ignition, not if you just switch to the "ON" position. It will stay there for a few seconds if you don't touch it. Nice touch, Scion!

Also, if anyone is interested, Sub control was off on mine by default. Setting it on put Sub control in my audio menu, which once again, made it sound far more awesome than I previously thought!

Even the New MY14 Pioneer HU is Also Set to tC!

Got the new Pioneer HU for my 2013 FR-S as an upgrade with a great screen and all.

It was also set to tC, same as the old HU unit original tC setting! Again, once changed to FR-S, the new HU did the same exact thing and sounded much better.

Thought I'd let you all know so you'd check that same setting after the upgrade to the new HU.

Wow. Can't believe I just found this thread. I've had mine for over a year, and I went and checked. It was set to TC. And just the other day my friend was in my car and remarked how the bass sounded off. Sounds so much better now, thanks man!

The flip side to this is that if you change speakers you should try the other settings.
