So I just bought an FR-S with 15000 miles on it and the clutch is slipping. I'm bummed because the dealer I took it to didn't check for that and I wasn't smart enough to test it myself.

Well if it only has 15k on it it should be covered some how or go to that dealer and get them to do something since you just bought it. As for shops to get it done call turn in concepts they are right here in cincinnati

I don't think he bought it from the dealer just took it there to get looked over. The clutch usually isn't covered as it's a wear item. My favorite performance shop is IPS in Columbus but is you want something closer zerolift should be ok. They have since changed their name however, I will find it for you.

I had a horrible experience there as well but had heard other people say it was ok. I figured I just had a bad experience....glad to know I'm not alone.

I had a bad experience with my 240 they used it to deliver stuff in Indiana after doing the swap and kept delaying pick up then tried to charge me more. Maybe they've gotten better but I'd rather go to turn in concepts super nice guys and helpful

Most used cars have (used to have?) a 3 month, 3,000 mile warranty depending on when you bought it. If it's still within that time frame I'd take it back to them first and go from there. Did you test drive it first?
$1,200 ???? What's the breakdown on that for parts & labor. That sounds way high...... |

As for the dealer, I contacted them and left a message. I asked for a big discount on a clutch replacement but not because I bought it there. I bought it from a private individual but I took it there for a pre-purchase vehicle inspection at the Joseph toyota/scion in Dayton (chosen because somewhat close to the seller) and it turns out that all they did was look at the brakes, fluid levels, and the typical things to check for when performing an oil change. I thought they actually did a more thorough job that one would expect when asking for such a pre-sale inspection... etc etc etc....yadda yadda... I filed with the BBB after I got a pretty rude response on the phone. In the end I trusted them too much and didn't know the right questions to ask the dealer....Hey, at least I know how to test the clutch the next time I buy a car. It'll probably be electric by that point anyway, so perhaps its moot. Anyway, thanks Ghost. |

So the crickets really are just an annoyance then? If they are just going to come back and they don't impact performance, then I'm not really inclined to have them change it.

Our clutch is one of the softest one you'll find in a sports car. If you think that it's stiff, you haven't driven that many cars. I've driven my friend's M3 and to drive it is the equivalent of leg day but for only one leg.
Also, while you're replacing the clutch, you might as well get an upgraded Exedy or something like that. They are often priced similar to the OEM ones, but offer better torque ratings. Just my 2 cents ![]() |
