Opened her up hard last night for the first time with my headers. Had a amazing first date lol went home with energy. I have been very happy so far, but i have to say, WOW. On a cool night with winding roads, she pulls hard and no longer has a dip. I cant wait to tune her.

One month checkup
It's been nearly a month since I installed the headers. With reports of warped flanges and exhaust leaks I decided to put my car up and check things out. It makes sense to me that if a leak existed then black soot would be all over where the leak was. Looking at my engine, everything looked clean so I think i'm alright. What we did not do was turn on the car and felt for leaks. We did go back and retorque all the nuts/bolts Here are some pics from my one month ![]() 20130410-HeaderCheckup-007 by VictorN07, on Flickr ![]() 20130410-HeaderCheckup-010 by VictorN07, on Flickr ![]() 20130410-HeaderCheckup-013 by VictorN07, on Flickr ![]() 20130410-HeaderCheckup-014 by VictorN07, on Flickr ![]() 20130410-HeaderCheckup-016 by VictorN07, on Flickr

Do you happen to log any data? Just wondering if you have seen an increase in coolant temps? I don't suspect, but just wanted to see.

thanks again for this write up. used this and the grimmspeed diy to remove the exhaust.
as for removing the stock manifold, i removed the two bolts holding the bracket for the overpipe. manifold was able to come loose fairly quickly afterwards.

I installed a Borla UEL about 2 weeks ago with a defouler. As I was driving it the first day, the cel light came on and stayed on for about 20 miles. It cleared by itself the next day and never came on again. I put on about 700 miles since with no issues!

Hello, getting ready to install a header, was wondering if an o2 wrench was really required?

The 02 wrench is helpful because it has a groove for the wires to come out from the sensor making it easier to tighten the sensor in a tight spot.

I just ordered a Borla header and read through the DIY (great write up!).
What is the torque specifications for the o2 sensors? Do I need to put antisieze on them? I'm guessing this is a no, since no one mentioned it, but do I need a new gasket for where I detach the frontpipe from the catback? Last question, do I need the pass-through socket that is shown in the beginning? Where do I need to use it for? Thanks for the write up!

I didn't torque the o2 sensor, just tightened it snug. Antiseize is a good idea. It's always good practice to replace exhaust gakset, but I reused my front pipe to catback gasket. No problem. I don't think I needed pass-through wrench/socket that was shown in the picture. Good luck! Removing overpipe/front pipe piece from header was a bit challenging. |

Yeah, that part was rusted like there was no tomorrow. Took me quite a bit of effort to get those two nuts off. Was a pain in the ass. Now that I have the Borla UEL installed. There's a weird sound when I accelerate. Kinda sounds like air is going out somewhere. Only when I step on the gas petal though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sounds like a rush of air? I only hear it at either certain RPMs or throttle position. I didn't notice any exhaust leak while I was down there after installing but I'm going to check again when I get a chance.

Yeah, that's exactly what it sounds like. I don't think it's a leak, because if it was, shouldn't the sound be there even when it's idling? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
