accelerating from a dead stop
We all know that this car is lacking a bit of torque, especially at the lower rpm ranges. I especially noticed it today when I pulled up behind an M3 this morning (good thing I didn't pull up next to it haha). As the light turn green, I wanted to see if I can keep up with it without flooring the pedal - definitely not as I watched him take off in front of me, so I concentrated on just staying ahead of the civics and corollas next to me - at least that wasn't too bad.
How do you guys normally accelerate and up-shift to keep up with the quicker cars from a dead stop? I normally up-shift to second really quick (less than 10mph) and throttle a little harder in second for a little longer - is this the wrong technique? Is the best way to accelerate, to throttle hard and up-shift at later rpms? |

lolwut? If you want more power you need more revs, so why are you shifting up at 10 mph, that's like 2k RPM
I see you are in Queens with raven FRS, I saw a raven FRS on van wyck expressway last week, did you see a silver BRZ next to you? |

lol if you want maximum acceleration you take 1st to redline, shift, 2nd to redline, shift, 3rd to redline.... i think you see where i'm going.

Sounds like you were granny shifting and not double clutching like you should. Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried.

a hair could fall on the gas pedal of an M3 and it would accelerate faster than a BRZ/FRS. If you want to be the stoplight racing champion of your block you bought the wrong car.

Ah got it, this is my first MT so i'm definitely babying the car...don't want to try anything with it since this is my first new car too. I feel like I'm hurting the engine everytime I go past 4k rpm.

I would still take on a BMW M3 on a twisty mountain road in a FR-S or BRZ...

what does double clutching do for speed? Or is that mostly to protect the engine/transmission?

only reason to double clutch now is if your putting a lot of power through a shitty transmission and you want it to last just a little bit longer before it shreds itself, or if your synchros are fried, either way you need a new tranny ![]() ![]() it does not make you faster
