That is basically how I looked at it. I also used it as an excuse to get the plugs changed for free (well cost of the plugs) amongst other things.

Well the other day I got a call from the Toyota recall center telling me it was vital to have the work done. The valves could break while driving causing engine damage and it may lock up it traffic. So it is a major safety issue. They told me to take it to the local dealer. I told them I already talked to them and because it is supercharged they would not touch it. The rep said he would look into it and get back to me.

Valve Spring is the cause?
I have a 2013 BRZ. I was driving down the highway at about 70 in 6th gear. Suddenly my oil light came on along with the CEL and it stalled. Pulled over in the breakdown lane and fought for about 30 minutes to get it running again. It would start, just wouldn’t fully turn over. Finally limped it to a parking lot where I had my uncle meet me. He ran his scanner and these codes popped up: P000D (B Camshaft position slow response bank 2), P0014 (Camshaft position B- timing over advanced bank 1), P0024 (Camshaft position B- timing over advance bank 2), and P1604 (startability malfunction). I then bought a timing kit and corrected the timing since it had jumped time. The car now turns over, but has a crazy knock. I THINK it’s a bent valve. I did some research and found out about the valve spring recall, I never received anything about it. I called my subaru dealership and immediately made an appointment with them for the recall. My question is, could the valve spring issue be the cause to the knock and possibly bent valve? I’ve read forums that people are stating the issue happened AFTER they took their car in for the recall, but this is before taking it in. SOS.

Recalls Look-up by VIN
Not all 2013 twins are affected. They may not have notified you because it doesn't pertain. Check it against the actual VIN on your car. There is still a possibility that it just borked on it's own.

They may have to cover it on their own dime then.
Good luck with that.

If you did not buy it new and have not gone to a Subaru dealer and had them look at it then it may be on you. If you have had work done by them they should have told you of the open recall.
Good luck |
