over the long term, and the resale values remain high.
As much as it would hurt to have the FRS/BRZ drop in value because of oversaturation in the market, it'd be an even bigger shame for no one to take this great opportunity to see that there is a market for cheap fun-to-drive cars. I was still too busy being a kid during the great Japanese Sports Car era of the late 80's and early 90's to appreciate and get those cars. Once I started driving at age 16, I started noticing cheap and great handling cars that came from that era. But I was definitely not in the right generation to be able to buy those cars brand new! I grew up in the late 90's and early 2000's with nothing but the choice for second hand FWD VTEC under-steering cars. Not that I still don't enjoy those cars, but I've never had the chance to own a proper RWD sports coupe out of Japan.

I have a huge passion for the AE86, and this is my opportunity to own that but in a modern styling and reliability with the daily driver comfort with the clean slate of a brand new vehicle. I don't fear the oversaturation of the FRS/BRZ because I still have this feeling that they aren't going to manufacture that many of them. But I would love to see Toyota and Subaru's rivals answer for what they haven't done in the past 10 years or so.

To be honest, I'd be super stoked to see new Silvias, FTO's, RX7's (or RX9) with all of Honda's lineup of awesome FWD cars.

i believe if "honda" jumps into the "fray"
they have the engineering team,AND resources
in place to "trump" the frs.i also do NOT believe
toyobaru will make too many of the frs, because limiting
production is in their interests over time by keeping the desire
and overall interest at a very high level.

yess! it's ''critical" to keep the total numbers down.
gotta remember this car is designed for a "limited"
market, and because of this fact will help control production
to some degree.

I know I will be getting one soon, but I hope to dear god that I will be able to get a stock ass manual FRS/BRZ in 5-10 years without having to pay GODLIKE monies for it. That's the only reason why I want there to be a decent number of these. I think 10-15k a year for both these models will be great. I'd be happy with that. Let's say 5 year run for this model, and we have about 75k in all of Northern America for all 5 years. I'd be fine with that.

Considering the average demographic of the current owners, finding cheap/flogged FRS in 5-10 years won't be that big of a problem.

It won't be like the original Miatas that were purchased by grandpas and kept in garages 6 of the 7 days of the week.

The production numbers were similar for the US, so I'm just hoping my 2013 BRZ Limited with 6AT in Lightning Red learns a few things from its garage mate, our 1993 RX-7/FD3s touring. Actually, I think they're siblings separated by two generations with my brothers 2003 S2K being the generation in between.

I'm especially hopeful that most of the first year production turns out to be premium trim level, with 6MTs and in the other color options (like the WRB for the traditionalists).

It's a good thing I didn't buy this car to keep as a classic, as I am having far too much fun driving it and racking up the Km's to be able to keep it as a low mileage car

I have always said since I bought it, that I won't be selling this car at all. I will be rebuilding this over and over as if it was an original AE86

kbb means nothing if you're trading it in. my car is currently listed as 14,000 top condition, 11,300 lowest condition. i'm being offered 9,000-10,000 on trade in from multiple places.

I was thinking something along these lines would probably be pretty common. I probably won't be able to do anything of the sort, but I figured it might make sense to drive the car until it dies, restore it, swap out the engine and keep it clean. The car could last forever with the right maintenance and money.

Not here!
All the used cars being sold are above the new retail price.

I think that's what one of the appealing aspects of this car is, in that there is alot of after market support and due to the 'story' and history of this car line, that there will always be that support.

The hard part for me is wondering whether its worth trying to source factory panels to store in my shed. Alot of friends have done this over the years for cars like rx3/4/7 and old school muscle cars.....and damn does it come in handy for a full rebuild...

If this car is going to be considered a classic, then...

1. It cannot be overproduced. As a matter of fact, it should be underproduced.
2. It must age about 25-40 years.

Don't expect any real investment in the car to pay off quite yet.
