+600 lb. is not "better" for what I value in a sports car...

From my perspective, what Toyota and/or Subaru *need* to do is to make a dedicated 2-seat cab-rearward version of the FT86!

It looks way better imo. Plus don't have to worry bout popping out. Body shop cut it out the size I need and they closed off the side marker spot. iirc I bought BMW F90 led smoke side marker which required to attach by double sided. Slice and rewire it and that's pretty much it. if it break, it'll only cost me like $15, so it's not much either.

Def understand what you mean and I agree with that. I love lightweight sports/sporty cars more than powerful cars. BUT sales view from them, it's better to sale tad more expensive car w limited production than cheaper limited production car. Especially, they know there's a demand on more powerful 86 from fans than lightweight better handling car.

Again, I def understand what you mean and 100% agree with you... but we're very rare breed.

BUT what if (& if only). Toyota made Supra that's MT, about 300~450lbs lighter, no BS safety or other pointless gizmo w whole purpose make these rare breed of gearhead happy? Of course, price ain't cheap. I'm not talking bout GT4 Supra. It's legit street legal lightweight Supra? Would you consider it? Me? I would, but prob keep my twin... but def something that catches our eyes imo. Is there a such Supra?

I'd 100% be interested in such a Supra. If it wasn't a re-skinned BMW (but that's basically what you were saying).

Maybe people will like it and even make the same success of the current generation. Maybe it 'll be an even better car with a better torque curve in mid range that so many people want. Either we like it or not it doesn't matter. From my point of view it is better to see a next generation, than axe the project.
That was my dilemma for a while

Keep my high mileage but problem free FRS until it started having problems and I needed to throw money at it? It is one thing for somebody buying it used and having to spend some cash but a totally different scenario when you have to start pouring money into a car you already paid $30K for.

Buy a new one now when I know what I am getting and there is zero risk of being disappointed. Managing to snag a Hakone was just icing on the cake in this scenario since I didn't think I had a hope in hell. The only other ones I would have been interested in were a WRB (so so common) or red BRZ so the availability was still restricted.

Wait and see what the what the 2nd gen would be. This would have gone back to hanging onto the FRS for an undetermined time and could have got caught up in the very real possibility (at that point in time) that there would not have been a 2nd gen. It was also of course a gamble that the 2nd gen could totally suck balls (which it remains to be seen) and then I would not be able to get a new 1st gen of any trim level or colour.

I figure that there is no way I can lose by picking up a new 2020 even if the 2nd gen turns out to rock my world. I can always trade in in 3 years once the true ability of the new version is know and possibly even avoid any first MY issues that are almost certain to surface.

The biggest questions are going to be: Did they change it enough to open up the demographics a bit so they sell enough to keep going? If they did make those changes is it still going to be a car that interests those that liked the first gen so much? Did they only make the new one because they are contractually obligated or is there still any passion left in the developers so they tried to maintain the ideal of what it started out as?

Haha I think, a lot of gearheads will be interested. Sadly, it'll be re-skinned BMW, that part won't change.

If you truly want Toyota sports car, might wanna wait a bit more. There might be something in your horizon... but I wouldn't hold your breath. Cuz rona pushed a lot of things back.

Going off-topic, so I'll stop.

So far the new BRZ gets a meh.
Only thing interesting is the GR Yaris, but that's not going to show up in the US as far as I can tell.
Sold out in minutes where they are available.

If they made a BRZ ute I might think about it, but only in an abstracted way.
The Toyota trucks have got the swole roid bro proportions now compared to when they were useful.

What the Supra could have and IMO *should* have been:
Shorter-wheelbase cab-rearward FT86 with n.a. Lexus V6. Bam, 2800-lb 50F/50R 9.5 lb/hp sports car that they could have profitably sold at $40k.

Unfortunately you can't reasonably *add* light weight to a car that was designed to be a luxosport BMW roadster. Supra is what it is, yet another overweight luxo "sports" car...

And they neutered the motor in the Tacoma, which is while I still drive my '07.

No waaaay. Toyota doesn't have the balls to make a sports car themselves anymore!

Technically if anyone wanted a Toyota made sports car you'd be looking at the Lexus RC, RC-F or LC.

Granted those are heavy as shit, cost at least twice as much as the twins, are lexus badged and are more towards the GT side of things, but they ARE in house built Toyota sports cars
